depends on what year ZR 600 it is, the 93-97 are differant then the 98-00 and the 98-00 are way differant then the 01-02

 

i have a 99 zr600 and can barely take an 01 xc500. both sleds are around 105 hp.
not surprizing an 03 xc500 can keep up with or beat an older 600.

 

my bro has a 2002 zl 600efi and it goes pretty quick

 

my buddy has 01 500xpsp and its keeps up real good with my 01 cat 600 efi. Not for long this year...

 

until they got power valves the 600s were pretty unimpressive.

 

i got an 01 with the powervalves....anyone have clutching reccomendations for me? all i can find is for the older 600 motor. i noticed it has a yellow/green primary, dont know the weights, reg/white secondary, and the stock 55/53 helix. thanks.

 

I think his is an 01 or 02. It has power valves and is all green with a black tunnel.

 

I have a 99 and a 2000 600 and I do not think they are slow at all. I have never had a problem beating 500's of any kind. I have always been dead even with a polaris 600 of any year up to 85-90 before the polaris pulls away.

 

I have never lost to another 600 sled of any kind. Neither has the guy I bought it from, and I have done some modding of my own this year :div20:

 

I would say that my 99 zr 600 is holding it's own. lets consider that these sleds are getting up there in age. But mine will still run strong up against new sleds.

 

BLinindoll and arcticranger,

are you guys running the stock pipe and chip?

if so, what clutch set up are you running? i am still trying different things trying to get it dialled in just right.

I'm running stock pipe with a black magic hot rod chip and black magic clutch setup. I don't exactly know the spec on the clutch cause i bought the sled with it.

Also, I wanted to mention... I just took my sled out for the first time this year in my yard, after getting it back together. This year my biggest mod was going 1 tooth down on the top gear. All I can say is OMFG. Talk about arm stretching torque, combined with eveything else I have. It's the best $30 i've ever spent.

I have the dnd single pipe and chip combo. I did my clutching. I turned my secondary clutch down lightened it up. Took .150 off of each sheeve.
It runs good. I also have it geared down. Thise year I am going to try bear cat clutches on it.

My 2000 ZR600 EFI would run with/beat the newer 600 XC's with 96 pics, redline oil, powder coated stock exhaust, and clutch work with about 5k miles on the engine. 53 grams weights, orange white primary, stock yellow secondary and 56-44 helix (might be a little to aggressive for the 98-99's). Last one I raced after the 3rd time losing he loaded up and went home.

what part of your helix would be too aggressive, start or finish angle?
what rpms does your sled engage and peak at?

BLinindoll - Did you notice much difference with the Hot Rod Chip?

 

i have a 2003 zl 600 efi and it moves but it doesn't have a good take off because it boggs down and eventually stals if i hold the gas. it doesn't do it all of the time but when it does it sucks

you need to do some work on your sled if it will die. something is not right. I have a no apv sled and it will run with any of the 600's out of the hole and stay with them till the top end. You might want to make sure your valves are clean and adjusted properly, and the belt defelction is set proper.

The chip was also in the seld when I bought it. I never had the stock chip in it so I don't know. I would have to assume yes, considering it leaned it out enough to stop fouling plugs.
