I've always just run the regular VES oil forever and never touched the VES Extreme. There are a TON of oil threads (and even non oil threads that turn into oil threads) on here if you search.

 

Polaris is nice in that they only recommend "synthetic oil". So they are saying you can run anything synthetic. I ran some leftover XPS in my 800 this season, it burned great.

 

Good to know. I was going to read what the manual said.
I have leftover XPS oil as well so I might just burn that. It seems to smoke less as well (but may not in the polaris)
Just trying to figure it out before buying oil next season.

The dealer in town fill jugs of all sorts from a drum and labels them with a VES Extreme label. Each jug has a different level. Apparently, they've never heard of Weights and Measures because they keep doing it, year after year.

To the OP, use an oil you're comfortable with and don't look back. You will get opinions all over the place and about half of them are correct. I have a non-Polaris brand I prefer that I've used with great success at about 1/3 the cost of VES Extreme.

Good point. I am tempted to run either amsoil or XPS oil but I didn't know if there were warranty concerns.
I wish there were some actual tests/analysis of the different oils to see how they compared.

What you running for oil?

 

Fuel pump socks and driveshaft bearings have taken out more poo’s then some dumb oil. Probably by 10,000’s of % or more.

 

Yeah the prices are getting nuts. A few of us Ontario guys should get together and split a drum or something. I've been looking at the motul synthetic. It's at Canadian Tire and royal and goes on sale sometimes but it's still pretty pricey at $82.99 a gallon.

Ya not a bad idea. Amsoil interceptor is a better deal than that and pretty highly recommended.

 

You can just run VES Gold which should be comparable in price to your old XPS.

Mark up has always been around 100%.

 

I've been running legend zx2sr in everything since 2012....including the 850's since 2019. ZERO issues and it is a highly refined mineral oil....which I think does a better job burning and for summer or off use protection on internals. Some may agree or not....don't matter to me. Warranty has been no issues using it.

As most have said before....run whatever makes you happy price wise, availability wise, or lets you sleep at night wise.

I lucked into a deal this fall,, a local guy was selling off some stock of full synthetic 2 stroke oil for $3 a liter. Been using it in my sled that's off warranty. It's blue and seems very similar to shell snow ultra

 

Run what you can readily get. I personally have been an amsoil guy for 23 years. I get it basically at cost and has been a great product for us.

 

Ever inspected the exhaust valves?

 

Run anything 100% synthetic.

As long as they can't deny any potential warranty claim I'm either going to continue to buy XPS oil put into unmarked jugs or buy amsoil interceptor directectly from the company. Both options are around $15-18 less per gallon than VES extreme.

 

How much money does everyone think they would save if they went the budget route on oil?

 

7 gallons (burned this winter) x $18 = $126

Coming over from skidoo I was a bit shocked at how much the VES extreme oil is compared to pretty much everything else on the market.
$89.99 Canadian for a gallon of oil is insane in my opinion.
I was paying $72 per gallon at the skidoo dealer for 'bulk oil' which was the XPS synthetic in unmarked jugs.
Even the full price consumer jugs of the XPS oil are $79.99
What is everyone's opinion of running oil other than VES extreme?

I have been in the camp of "always run the manufacturers recommended oil" in the past but having to pay $18 more per gallon is making me think.
I ran XPS oil for over 10,000km in my 850 etec and never had an issue, why wouldn't it be good enough for the patriot 850?
I've seen those cold flow test videos and it looks like amsoil interceptor performs well...

Used Amsoil for over 5,000 miles in my 19/850/XC. Rode in lots of -30c to -40c. Never had a single engine issue. Pulled my exhaust valves at 3,000 miles, not needed. My 22/650/XC has 2,000 miles on the same oil. Works like it should. Way cheaper to buy as well.

 

And there us where oil threads shoulf be left……use whatever works for you and let’s you sleep at night. :thumbs
