There's no doubt Snowmobiling is a dying sport, we used to see 100's every week during a good snow year, now less then 1/2 of that, last year really sucked in many areas including here in Snow Country.

 

Im ok with declining numbers...Which in turn means less assclowns coming around a corner on the wrong side of the trail...Especially during the week...STAY RIGHT...or...STAY HOME...

 

don’t forget the trails will cease to exist eventually also

 

Keep jacking up prices & delivering poor quality = easy to pass on buying new. Those numbers are trending the way they are, not because of the snow season, but because of the price increases by the OEM's.

 

Completely agree, was a tough pill to swallow when I snow checked my 2023. Then to see What they were giving the leftovers away for. ontop Of that the oem’s are making them too complex thus jacking up the prices. There’s a reason skidoo is selling a ton of base models… because they are cheap and still twice as good as a sled that’s 10-15 years older.

 

New sales definitely diving with inflated prices and interest rates. What would be really informative though is if they could somehow aggregate all the data on # of trail passes sold or annual licensing renewals in Canada and US to get a year over year understanding of the rise and decline of users. New sales could be low but maybe not ridership b/c people are just holding on to old iron.

I bet a lot of those 2024 sales were 2023 leftovers.

 

Here is the actual numbers. US sales were honestly not bad. Only down by 1,566 units. But the beginning of the year no one knew the winter we had was coming. So id bet snow checks were high. And I bet a lot of units sold at the end with the major price reductions.

Maine relies on tourism. Lack of SNOW (not sled prices) have killed tourism. Well.... That and COVID shutting sh*t down.... We need a GOOD winter and folks willing to WORK to regain the economics of Maine Tourism

 

What does a full size, base type model, ‘24 or 25 sled go for?
I know cats (imo) are expensive, and I do see a lot of those more basic skidoos on the trail, but I have a niece and two nephews now that are riding the base polaris machines, I believe, because they were priced the cheapest. And I think they were about $8k? But I don’t know.
I know ten years ago between my father and I it was common for us to register 5-6 sleds a year and put 2000-4000 miles on them combined. One or two of them would be new, and I liked to keep them.
Insurance fees have doubled these days though and snow is Thin. last winter we only registered 3. One of them never seen snow, other two didn’t get 900 miles combined. Didn’t order anything for ‘25

See the blip in 2019, remember how many 850’s Polaris sold that year.

I think people keep sleds longer than they used to, particularly the 4 strokes.

Yeah 2021 was the best year for snowmobile sales in the past decade. So more people riding.

Which we can't complain about too many people riding when most this website is full of doom and gloom and claim this is a dying sport. I'm sure this year the quitters quit. Lol

 

So who owns Polaris stock on here ? I was tempted to buy a few years ago but it sure looks to not be a good investment right now. What's the forecast for them ? Anyone following ?

A great economy can't overcome poor management or a dying market.
Businesses that have management that position themselves for growth are doing very well... and are seeing higher stock prices for that factor.
It is why Yamaha Motors is up 12%

 

it's only going to get worse for polaris. there recalls are killing them. and most of these recalls haven't fixed the issue's. there still having RZR fires, and the fuel tank recall didn't fix the issue? they can't keep going like this.

 

I was seriously looking at a nice deal on a Polaris SXS…2024 8k off from the beginning of spring ! Sales guy was great and I don’t like sales people. Told me all the real world issues and recalls on many of them including the model I was interested in… I walked away. Was trying to invest in the perfect time to make more memories with my grand children but I find other ways I guess

They are fine, the stuff they build is still the most fun and reliable enough.

 

I'm 43 and Polaris has been crap my whole life. If their stock is down 38% currently that's called a sale folks and if you want to make money you buy low and sell high.

 

If only knowing when it's a low or high sure would make it much easier. Is this low a new high or is that high a new low?

 

Pre pandemic polaris stock was under 100.00 peaked @ 145.00....I don't think polaris's valuation should be at pre-pandemic numbers. Surely they will recover once they write down the losses on leftover inventory.

 

No one here knows if they are on the red with snowmobiles. And I doubt they are. Here's the thing about today's world. There is one less manufacture to compete with. And those sleds were expensive.

 

They reported to investors that they lost money last quarter and the quarter before. But x-snowmobiles they made money. Since that was them reporting it, I would state that any investor paying attention knows they are in the red on snowmobiles.

 

there laying off people. that and there falling stock should tell you they are heading for a fall. they can't sell there ATV'S/UTV'S here in N.H or on the east coast. people know there a POS now and it's killing them. Honda, Yamaha, and Can-am have cut into them terribly lately. the dealer down the street from me has a whole bunch of Polaris RZR'S they can't sell even at a discount. they can't get enough Honda side by sides, they have a waiting list with guys who put money down on them. look up the Ranger,RZR recalls. the other mfg have less recall's combined. i know guys that have more mileage bring there pos back to dealers for recalls then miles on the trail? if they don't start making a better product they will be gone. i can't believe they can find a insurace company that would insure them? they still have multi million dollar law suits hanging over them? WTF

 

I don't think CanAm really did much.
On the wheeled-side (the biggest part of their business), they did have terrible results with the industry expanding global sales and their sales falling. But CanAm seemed to just gain about equal to the overall market growth for that time period.
Honda really put it to them... and I expect will return to King Honda status bypassing them.
But I didn't see any reports on Yamaha sales growth... I know they were down the list, but still in the top ten.

 

At the moment I own 2 Polaris XP 1000 ATV's (2015 & 2016) I use them almost every day all year long and plow snow with them, bought them brand new.. and I have 1 Polaris XP 1000 RZR, they have all been trouble free except 1 starter on 1 ATV and tires. Have also owned a 325 Trail Boss (wifes), an 500 ATV, a 700 ATV, a 800 ATV, and an 850 ATV.
Dealer near me sells and rents 100's of Polaris sleds and wheelers also sells CanAms.
Here's some pics of ATVs I've had and some pics of what I have now. 2 of the 4 on the lake plowing our drag strip are mine and 1 is my daughters Polaris.
We have 1000's of miles of inter-connecting trails to ride on and all of this Counties roads are also open to wheelers.

might have been polaris? but there heading in the wrong direction. just like SKI-DOO, HONDA going to spoon fed them there lunch. you can spin it anyway you like. they won't be #1 in ATV/UTV sales much longer. and it's nobodys fault but there's.

 

Most SxS on trails in the summer are Polaris in MN and Wisconsin. Second is probably Can Am

 

Tis true, if they were junk folks would buy something else.

 

here is the big differnce. where you are it is flat. ever been to N.H./ M.E. ? we have very steep hill's, mountains, rocks ( the granite state ) way worse terrain here. you can go from 500 ft. above sea level to over 3000 in 10 miles. only the toughest survive here. and it's not polaris.

 

You should move to Snow country, 1000's of miles of trails here.
