Yup, a good dealer will set it up for the altitude that you ride.

Definitely have your dealer do it, you'll notice the difference between yours and your buddies'

 

I think they come with 62gram weights? I just went to the dealer and ordered the 68gram weights for at home and changed them myself. All i changed and it runs great at home!

 

All the rmks I ordered came set up for altitude I was at in Wisconsin. Dealer prepped. But in the manual kit you get theres usually a seperate sheet that gives you clutching specs for the altitude ranges. I have found them to be spot on in clutching.

 

Our dealer doesn't change from factory. I run 68gram at 18-2200'.

 

Sled does come stock with 62's and no it's not the dealers duty to give you weights and install them. This is a mountain segment sled and comes with high altitude weights. With that being said, get yourself a set of 68's and have the dealer install them upon set up and you will be good to go! The sled rips up to 4,000' with 68's!

 

What he said, any dealer doing anything else is going above & beyond. Mine will be coming with 62s. I'm not letting the dealer install them as I can hardly trust anybody putting the skis on the thing after they take it out of the crate I'm not one to complain about Polaris' thinking behind this, as I will need the 62 g weights if I head out west with it. Time to keep my eye out on Ebay! Picked up 62 g weights for my RMK 600 brand new shipped for $25 this past winter.

 

Most dealers around here will not clutch it and I don't have a problem with that. My dealer is a close friend of mine and we ride together every weekend and still will not ask him to do it. I like to everything myself anyway. I do plan on changing the weights and that is all Polaris recommends depending on altitude anyway. I was curious what some others were doing here in the East mountains of northern NY, NH and ME. Oddly enough, I have come across most people that have done no changes. Some did not have any clue they should change anything and dealer said nothing to them either.

 

I do most all off my riding in ME between 2,500-3,800ft.. I rode my '13 PRO last season with the factory weights and it went fine. Here and there it would cut out though during WOT because it would over rev. That did bug the hell out of me. This season I put in some belly buster 66 gram weights and that made a huge difference. No more cutting out, better low end power and would lift the skis alot easier.

These are the things i would also do to your new sled. Relocate your kill switch. Maybe a tether(get the poo one, the sled is pre wired for it). Can of course... Get upgraded bumpers, both factory ones are junk. Yes the rear carbon fiber bumper will break. If you do alot of off trail those are the first things i would do. Of course sky is the limit these days if you have the time and cash..

 

I went with dalton adjustables, no pulling the weights out just changing set screws. Takes 5-8 min to do all 3. Then you can adjust for different elevations and power adders. I had to add 2gr when i went to 13.6 domes, still didn't have to change the physical weights.

 

Scott the 62s will be a little heavy if you go out west.depends on where you go you will need 58-60 gram weights.I ran 58's last weekend and my buddy ran 60's but the 60's where to heavy and we where riding between 10,000-11,600ft.

 

yup 58's above 10 thou out west and 66/68 in n.h. me. I've had stock rmk's bonce off the rev limiter with 62's in them in n.h. I have the hot set-up for 800 e-tech's in the east.

 

Don't worry about relocating your kill switch, just put an o-ring around the bottom of the button to prevent it from working (get a tether instead). A can does nothing but make too much noise on these sleds, imo. I hit a tree hard last time up in the mountains and broke a pile of stuff including the front bumper. After further investigation if i had a stronger bumper up front i would have damaged the main bulkhead, its easier to change a bumper than a bulkhead.

The proper weights for the elevation are a must.

I totally agree. Leave the bumper stock. It's kind of like an airbag. Takes the impact and yes it bends or breaks but it is not so sturdy that it takes out anything structural!

 

I just rolled my kill switch ahead a little so my waist can't hit it.I would recommend a tether too.Last weekend I did a big climb and jumped a cornice at the top and got ejected and the sled was on the bars with the the throttle partly open.

 

a tether is a absolute must have as well as a tec vest for any off trail rider. if you have seen the video where a ski-doo summit tries to eat the rider? you would be putting a tether on your sled right now. I set-up and mod a lot of summit/rmk's for both the east and west. believe it or not I have customers that trailer there sleds to Wyoming from n.h. every year. and not just two or three. even carb sleds. kind off funny trying to load a old rmk on the trailer with the main jets 10 sizes smaller. it won't even run here.
