don't have to take the belly pan all the way off. Just pull it loose around the mount and work around it. worked fine for me when i had to do it.

I am not trying to scam the system. I am trying to determine what the best course of action for me will be given various options that will be laid out by my insurance company. Now go fuck yourself.[/b]
Take what the insurance company gives you, then fix it yourself - you'll probaly come out ahead of the game as they should pay both the parts and labor to fix it. You're not scamming anyone...you paid for the insurance, so you should use it.

Make sure that rear mount point of the trailing arm isnt bent. It will be a real pain in the azz if it is. If you arent comfortable doing the work yourself, turn the claim into the insurance. If you are, then do it yourself. The problem with a snowmobile claim is... they may dump you. Most insurance companies wont even insure a sled unless they have your homeowners as well. I am not sure what snowmobile threshold for total is but for automobiles, it is 65% of the value.

statefarm. Have a lot of policies with them and a very clean insurance record.[/b]

"does anybody know what the percentage threshold is for a total loss with regards to state farm insurance"

Which is exactly why you need to discuss with your specific insurance company. I tried to tell you that previously, then gave you a common sense approach to figuring out the likelyhood of your concern coming to fruition. Nobody else can tell you what your carrier's policy is as far as handling any specific claim...nobody but them. You can have anyone speculate, but that is not what you truly need for information since it is just that, speculation. Put in your claim and you will be given all the information you are looking for. Each claim is different. I think you are worrying about something that may not even be a consideration once all is said and done.

I beg to differ.

"The problem with a snowmobile claim is... they may dump you. Most insurance companies wont even insure a sled unless they have your homeowners as well. "

He needs to discuss with his agent. Said he has a clean record.

It actually varies state to state, depending on their specific laws, then differs company to company. State laws take precident. There may be other factors you are not considering.

I think the first part is BS. All I have is a couple of vehicles with them. My sled policy is less then 150/yr for full coverage and a 100 deductible.

I agree 110%. Especially when my deductible is $250. Was not asking if I should fix it myself. Was asking if I could expect the insurance company to total it.

And, by no insurance, you mean just no collision right? Please tell me you popped the $50 for liability... FYI full coverage for mine was $250 a year.[/b]
I agree. Everyone should at least carry liability on their sleds. For the cost, why risk getting sued over something happening on the trail.
Cheap peace of mind.

My exgirlfriends dad had a 05 xc 600 with 2000 miles on it. He hit a mailbox and put a crack in the hood dented the trailing arm and a few other things. Looked fixable but he talked to the insurance company just to see what they thought and they said it was totaled but he ended up buying it back. He wasnt looking into scamming the insurance company. Just wanted to see what his options were.

Geez I must be lucky. I pay less than $350 for three sleds full coverage a year. I can even drop them in the summer months and save.

Buy insurance, use insurance= scam? What a joke.

Not to offend as I think my first post did, sorry about that. But it read to me you have a $3500 sled with $1000 damage and were looking to get it totaled and buy it back and fix it yourself for a few hundred and make a profit. No need to get all fuck you fuck that about it.

That is what you want to happen am I correct?

What do I want to have happen?
I want my sled fixed. Yesterday. Sorry about coming out swinging, but getting accused of insurance fraud is about the last thing I needed that day. And by the way, if they give me the choice to buy it back and repair it to ride or sell, that is my legit decision to make. As far as making a "profit", whatever. I value the time I would spend working on it, and there is the diminished value of the machine after it gets fixed. I never said I would try to hide that. Would you pay the same amount for a sled that has been in an accident as one that has not? Ever heard of Carfax? Same principal.
Anyway, the dealer did their job, and found every little bit of damage they could to the tune of $2200. Still waiting for the Statefarm adjuster to inspect the sled. Then, I guess he will either authorize the repair, or kick it over to the Totaled Vehicle Division for the final disposition. Should hear by the end of the week.

drold,

you can negotiate with your insurance company on the settlement......if they want to total it, you can come back with a counter offer of you keeping the sled and them giving you a cash payment - no need to take a settlement then have to buy back the sled. Just be up-front with the adjuster about what you want to do. They did insure it, and they know they have a finacial responsibilty for the damages

Try Massachusetts, where it costs $140-160 for basic liability - with a clean record (thats on a 600). The same insurance can be had in Vermont for $50 - no joke.

I don't carry insurance at all on my sled cause the co. I had it threw dropped all sled coverage. when I did have it they wouldn't let my suspend it in the summer, w hen it was parked in an insured garage. never used it just wrote out checks each month and threw them in the hole at the end of the driveway. just like auto ins. why can't "they" start paying us back when we get to old to drive? or maybe the option to forfit your lissence and then draw on the money youve given "them"just sayin...
