So here's the deal a few years ago I bought a 2 place trailer off a friend of mine for $100 bucks and ran it up until the end of last winter hauling my sled and fourwheeler. I noticed it had begun to show its age so I decided to turn it into a sled deck. Today I began the transformation. I stripped the axle and deck off of it and I plan to cut a few more things out of it to try and lighten it up. Im planning to use 2" uni strut as posts into the bed of my truck with the feet already bolted to the bed. Now I ask you guys for a little bit of help. What should I put down for a new deck (wood wise) and what can I do to shed a few more pounds. Thanks in advance!

If you can manage to turn the trailer into a decent sled deck, than you could manage to build a sled deck from scratch.

M $.02; rebuild the trailer and sell it as a trailer, then build the deck with the proceeds if you want.

If you want to shed weight, how about just putting down the plastic trailer runners for the skis and a couple feet of whatever for the track?

I have seen a few old 2 place turned in to decks . ! guy I know well he only had 250 in to the whole project .
he built a alloy box the bolted to the main frame rails so it could come off and take less space for storage.
and 4 turn buckle type things to hold to bed in the 4 corners.
last yr he painted a rubber membrane on the whole underside so when sleds started to thaw they did not get any water on gear in bed

I make progress on this project almost everynight after work. I am re using my old decking. I sealed the bottom side and im using an antiskid on the top. I cut up the trailer frame and got what I didn't need out of the way. That's ready for paint I just need the sun to shine for a few hours.
Im not entirely sure what I will use for a ramp yet. That's what im hung up on. if worse comes to worse ill buy a sled ramp and find a safe way for it to mount to the sled deck. I really like the idea of aluminum and they are around $300 which would be the most expensive part of the project. But it sure beats $2500. For the headache rack I plan to con one of my buddies into donating an old rack from one of their trucks. or ill end up making one.
