Went out yesterday -16C, have a 16 ZR9000 and my daughter rides a 17 ZR 6000, the heated grips work better on the 600 and are more consistent in temp, the turbo is all over the place in terms of constant temp. We were both a bit cold in the hands and was considering some muffs. Heard good reviews on the Kimpex brand with windows. Also was reading that you can use a lighter weight/shorter glove potentially

KIMPEX Snowmobile Muff with Window | Kimpex Canada

Any real life suggestions?

I used to use some older Arctic Cat gauntlets that have rigid wires around the hand opening. This is great if you like to take your hands off the bars to signal other riders or for any other reason because the wires make getting your hands back in the muffs easy. However, because the back end of the muffs are essentially open all the time, wind does wrap around inside them and they really don't do all that good of a job keeping your hands warm.

Last year I started using the Klim gauntlets, and they make a major difference. They are not not nearly as easy to get your hands in and out of, but once in, they keep your hands warm. This works well for me as I have stopped almost all my hand signaling (especially on straightaways where the oncoming headlights tell the story better than my fingers anyway). Check them out here. Klim Handlebar Muffs. I suspect the Kimpex gauntlets are similar to the Klims in that they will do a good job of keeping the wind out but are not all that easy to get your hands into while riding. I just say, keep you hands on the bars anyway....

there is nothing better than muffs, the new cat ones are great with the clear window on top to see the buttons, ..BUT the elastic inside is a junk way of holding them on... what i did with my old ones and these new ones was line them up where i wanted and ...at the end on the handle bars... there is a hole in the grip, i lined it up on the muff and drilled a 1/4" -5/16 hole in side of muff and pushed in one of those barbed body plugs with a 1/2-1" head... works great even on the older all material type. holds them in place better as the elastic keeps coming off end of bars. NICE part with muffs is all you need to ride with is light mech gloves.... hands are never cold and WIFE LOVES them.... no complaining.
I did take them off for the trip in Cochrane... MISTAKE cuz i bought KLM 350.00 heated gloves, it was -25 and at 60mph its more like -50, they wrked great for 3 hrs then died and they were worse than the chapest gloves on the market, once the heat goes my hands FROZE, even the other guys i rode with had 509 heated gloves and same thing 3 hours on medium heat. i just took them back and they are saying they wrk as discribed, but they didnt disclose they are shit when no heat is on!!! even grips on high, still FROZE!! i just bought the FXR heated ones as they have the same insulation as there best glove... but they have heat as a back up... i ran at -17 no heat turned on in glove and were good. you would prob only need low power to be comfortable at really cold with grips.

I got slight frostbite on my hands a few years back riding in the Polar Vortex, and now have fingers that go numb at anything under +40* F. Gauntlets are my way to keep riding comfortably. They work well.

I've also had frost bite to my fingers so they get numb much easier. Local cat/brp dealer had some logo-less BRP muffs which looks indentical to the Klim ones. Just wish I didn't wait that long to get them

Bought these last year. Arctic Cat Semi-Rigid Handlebar Muffs - Universal
fit is perfect and they remove quickly. Warm as toast. Rode on a day with high temp of 4 degrees ( -15 c) and had to shut the hand warmers off a few times. 10 minutes later, right back on. They flatten out ez and fit in the small bag on the stock Zr's.. These are one of the best accessories to add to your sled. Its too bad they are back ordered, must be popular especially with the crummy winter most of the US an Canada is having.

I looked and looked for those... they seem perfect to me because how short they are, but would still do the trick. can't find them anywhere

I have a set that have the clear window which work great. Keep them in my tunnel bag all the time. Got mine from Kimpex. They have a nice cord for tightening then onto the bars. They stay put and it’s nice to see the controls. I’ve been out in weather so cold most wouldn’t venture out. im warm and toasty with the heated seat on and the handle bar muffs. Wouldn’t go without them. Only bought them about 3 years ago and wonder why the hell I waited so long. Lol

just a little story, was prob 15 years ago, when we had lots of snow, and real cold weather, we were sledding in Haliburton ,Ont and we had gone for evening ride at -40 out, one of my budds hands couldnt stay warm and our faces were getting frost bite, we ended up putting duck tape on our face around edge of helmet and the one guy cut bottom of his long johns off and put them on his handle bars as muffs... once you can take the wind off your hands... the heated grips will be enough... you gotta do what works>lol

I looked at a set at my dealer yesterday, I think they said $100 on them, they had the window in them, I believe they’d be the same thing anyway. If I stop back there later this week I’ll try to get the part number if you don’t see it before then. I think my old fashion set without the window was about $40 a few years ago. I keep them in the trailer for emergencies. They definitely work

Funny... I just posted on the AC Trail Riders FB group last night looking for anyone who might have the AC Semi-rigid muffs listed above. WTF did they stop making them. Wife wants a set.
Looking at both the Klim and Kimpex set as well.
@KLYMAXR - Klim stole your idea. Their muffs come with one of those plugs built into them - shove it in the handlebar.

So Klim Defect Muffs
or Kimpex Universal Muffs

So i received both sets of muffs... Neither of them tighten up on the narrow AC handlebar. The Kimpex are really nice, but unusable because of how the fasten. None of my sleds have handguards, so there's nothing supporting the muffs.
Not sure what to do.
Feel silly even talking about sleddin' when it's 62 degrees!

I have those Kimpex and with them as tight as I can get them is more than enough for them to stay in place. I don’t use hand guards because of my big windshield but once I’m riding with my hands in the muffs they are quite comfortable. The warmth is incredible, you can ride bare handed or with a very lite pair of gloves.
