I'll be the first to admit, discussing the SMELL of oil when deciding on what to use is silly to me. If it works, I use it and usually stick with it.

My daughter has a Predator 90 and I recently switched to using synthetic oil. I bought some Polaris VES Gold Synthetic. The price was decent, it was synthetic and well.... it was there on the shelf so I bought it.

I got home and opened it up and I was suprised at the plesent smell it has. When she rides, the exhaust odor isn't that bad either. Normally I don't mind ANY 2 stroke smells but this was much better than normal.

I hate to admit it, but now I'm wondering what oils like iPone and others smell like that say they smell like strawberries or vanilla. It's got me curious!

Just thought I'd share.

I've gotten a wiff of ipone oil....smells like blue berries when you open it...other than that it smells just like using any average 2 stroke oil out the exhaust afterwards. Klotz and at least one type of ski-doo oil plain stink...each has a unique stink. I for one don't want to end up smelling like either after a day of riding. Like i mentioned before...seems its more important for some guys to aquire the most stink an oil puts out rather than pay attention to how well its rated.

IMO, VES Gold is the best of them all when it comes to smell. It's just pretty pricey. Anymore I have been going consecutively cheaper and cheaper... First to Klotz then to Citgo Sea and Snow. Klotz does smell great when my engine is cold, but not so good once it's hot. As far as being behind it, I wouldn't know. Never been behind another Klotz burning sled.

I was pretty much addicted to that stuff last year when I was riding my Poolaris. I loved that smell!

I use Klotz for the most part and have for YEARS since way back when my old ass used to race dirtbikes. Never had any issues with it and I love the smell. I tried a gallon of Blue Marble in my 500 ski doo last year and it semed to work well, however their claim of no smell or smoke is kinda bs.. it smells... and it still smokes.. Im just wondering if its claims of what it does for the motor is the truth.. I DO know my son ran it HOT one day on a iced road and called me after the idiot light had come on and it wouldnt start.. well 1/2 hour later it started and it ran another 300+ miles the rest of the season with no issues. *shrugs* maybe it DOES put some kind of coating on the innards? Ill know more when I do a season look into the motor in the next few weeks.
