If you want to beat a zr600 with and F5 you had better do something to it. My 98 ZR600 EFI LE will hit 100mph on the gun easily and I only have a chip in it. If you want to be sure should look into an F6. I know the F5 is a quick machine and may, that is may get the jump on a sleeping zr driver at the hole shot but in a long shot across the lake the zr would win out top end even stock. Of course if you ask an F5 owner they'll tell you different, but if they are all so sure why have I seen this question 100 times ?. Boils down to what differnce does it make 95mph or 100mph cant tell the differecne without a speedo and no matter how fast your sled is there is always soemone faster somewhere. Just be haapy you at least ride a cat!

The amount of heat in the pipe changes it's tuning. A tuned pipe works by bouncing a pressure wave back into the exhaust port. This shoves the unburnt fuel-air charge, that blows into the exhaust, back into the cylinder to be burnt. A cold pipe will be slower, in time, from the pulse out to when it comes back and a hot pipe will be faster in the amount of time it takes. The pipe is made to work best at a certain rpm (peak power rpm) and when it's cold the pipe is working best at a lower rpm than the rest of the egine is designed to, so you loose power at the peak. Hope is makes sense.... Just warm it up good and take it for a for a rip across the lake or field before you line up to race. Some of the race 440's have a button you hit that changes the timing to heat the pipe on the line. Ever notice how the poo 440's were getting the holeshot alot last year? That's why, hot pipe.

I tell ya, any guy on a ZR600 that gets smoked by a stock F5 at the end of a run is either smoking something or has a defective machine. It makes me laugh at all these F5 guys. If you are so worried about beating 600's you should have bought and an f6 or f7. I've never had problems smoking zr 500's or any other 500 stock machine. I have raced a couple of "hot shots " on their "kick ass" F5's and they both went home with their mouths shut!

Hey the F5 is probably the fastest 5 out there but that doesnt mean it'll smoke all the 600's as well and 75% of a race is the rider. What also kills me is that what do you think firecat owners rode before the F sleds and now all these Fcat owners are calling down the ZR's they would still be rideing if they didn't have a firecat

badcat,
racing the f-5 against the zr6 is going to be a great race , he stated in a half mile distance , the f-5 WILL beat the zr out of the hole so the 6 will have to play catch up , the question is , will the zr have enough room to do so in 2640 ?
benjir,
just make sure you break in your sled properly , then bring it in the garage and go through it and check everything from cable slack , carbs opening all the way, belt deflection, track tension, ect ect ect . then when everything is perfect and you have some seat time on it, then race and report back the results.
