Who has ridden with this helmet? Like many others in this forum right now I am in the hunt for the "perfect" helmet for next year. I am pretty sure that I've narrowed it down to the Castle CX950. The only downfall I see in the reviews of this unit is that it fogs. I plan on going with the electric shield, but honestly plan on spending most of my riding time with the main shied up and the tinted visor down. Has anyone here had trouble with the tinted visor fogging when in the up position, or in the down position with the shield up? I currently use a full face, shield open, shades on. I am beyond sick of dealing with glasses and adjusting my breath box because it moves when I take the helmet off. The electric shield seems to prevent fogging, but doesn't provide protection from the sun. If I wear shades and put the shield down my shades fog.

Other options:
509 Delta R4 - Looks like the same helmet as the CX950.
CKX Mission - Don't like the idea of not being able to ride with the shield open.
CKX Titan - Not sure if I want to deal with multiple pairs of goggles and I don't see a heated/tinted pair that is compatible.

As always, thanks in advance!

I have the Heated EXO-CX950 helmet. I used it last year and ultimately did not like the helmet as the drop down visor would frost up when in the up position. Admittedly, since it was the electric version, it kept the main face shield clear. Also if you wear glasses and drop the tinted shield down, depending on the glasses I wore, there was very little little room and would sometimes collide with the glasses. Since then, I gave the helmet to my son who loves it and bought the Electric, CKX Mission. This helmet has worked as advertised and the drop down tinted shield has plenty of room for those who wear glasses. If as you say, you want to ride with the shield open I am not sure this is a workable solution for you, However I have never, had my glasses fog up and I have worn shades on real bright days. The AMS systems works as advertised. In any case hope this helps

How is the ventilation on the mission. Maybe I don't need to ride with the visor open. I don't see how that's possible knowing how warm I am when I ride, but maybe. I think in the long run I end up with one of these for cold days and something else for warm days, but I don't want to buy 2 just yet.

I've had an EXO-CX950 since they came out. An electric shield is a must if you ride a newer sled, because they tend to fog up. They don't fog up if riding an older sled like a Polaris Edge. This has been the best helmet I've ever had and it's fairly lightweight. I don't have a problem with the sun shield fogging either. It's made it through 3 full seasons without anything breaking. I like the fact that the visor will protect the shield while in the up position.

I was looking at the Castle Helmet also. My concern with others is that I have communicators. And the Castle has ear pockets for the speakers. Also, I don't want a breath box like on Doo Modular because it will muffle my voice when talking. So interested to hear what others say about it

Rode two seasons about 4500 miles on and off trail. Good helmet overall and priced fair. Very comfortable. But I've also been shopping for a better helmet for 2 years hoping I find something that I LOVE!

The modular feature is nice but I dont feel any modular is really safe.

Little heavy

Drafty

Fogs unless plugged in

Hot and fogs off trail

Again it's a pretty good helmet overall. I read every review on every other option and the opinions are so scattered its impossible to make a decision without trying one out for a season.

My thoughts on the Castle X 950, I've had it for 2 full seasons.

I came from a BRP Mod 2, which was a mixed bag. I wanted lighter weight, no breath box, and all the fucntions of the modular.

I got an electric 950 and ordered the smoke drop down sun shade, since I am very light sensitive. I dont wear glasses.

Good stuff:
- The helmet is light, much less neck strain vs. the Mod 2
- The sun visor (on the outside) is more useful than I thought it would be, and definitely helps on sunny days.
- The electric shield is 100% fog-free when plugged in. Nice, wide field of vision too.
- I installed wired UClear speakers, and they fit perfectly in the pockets.

Not so good stuff:
- It can be drafty & cold on really cold days. Enought that my eyes water on high trail speeds (75+)
- I had delamination of the electric shield after 1.5 seasons. There was an air gap forming between the two layers. Dennis Kirk was awesome and swapped it out under the 5 year warranty no questions asked.

- The drop down shade WILL FOG under certain circumstances. It helped treating it with dish soap multiple times & being diligent to crack the visor when stopped to keep airflow decent. It was good when brad new, but the coating wears off when you clean it.

It definitely was worth the $300 I paid, but I might try a MX style in the future, just to see if it can be warmer and better sun protection.

I've got the scorpion 950 (same as the castle x but can't get those here in Canada), second year wearing it 10k miles or more. It does leak somewhat. If you want to use the sun shade, you have to put it down first thing or it'll have condensation on it in the stored/up position. Don't like the fighter mast junk like a BVS2 so I removed it all on day 1 along with the peak. It's half the price of the new oxygen but I will prob go that route next. Had an HJC before that I could open with my gloves on (klim tundra split finger) but the latch on the castle & scorpion is smaller & I have to remove glove to open it. Nice going slow or if somebody is stuck.
