So I got my first 140ish miles on my 2015 800 etec renegade with rmotion and there is still 66% break in left. My question is do these 800 etecs get that much stronger after full break in? Cause right not it feels no better than a 600 to me. Feels nothing like my 2010 Ptek 800, so i am hoping after break in it gets more snap. And also maybe it is just me but i was not overly impressed with rmotion after the way the mags and people online hyped it up. Dont get me wrong it rides great but again it did not feel head and shoulders better than my 2010, maybe like the motor it needs to break it some? Your thoughts guys?

I had the opportunity to switch back and forth between a new Axys S/B 600 and an MXZX 600 and both are quality sleds. In the end my buddy and I agreed that if you could throw the rmotion in the axys you'd have a perfect sled. The rmotion just eats bumps while the axys cornered extremely flat, a huge improvement considering the ski lift polaris has had in the past chassis. The gas mileage on the etec was sick, put 5.3 gallons in after doing 111 miles...

I have a 12 MXZx 800 etec it is a very smooth motor and deceptively fast for how it feels. We also have a 12 Gade 800 etec in the group and its a turd. We are talking bus lengths. I also have a 12 F800 SP that is the fastest, and my brother has a 12 F800 SP that is pretty much om par with my Etec. I dont think much has changed after break in with either. R motion is a very nice skid handles great and is very smooth. I have the quick adjust option and wish I didnt. Its a nice feature but the placement SUCKS when playing around of trail.

when I got my sled we had a group of ski doo etecs one 2010 ptek , and I never really noticed a big difference in power before or after break in ,we would drag every chance we got ten -fifteen times per ride , never really gained or lost any sled lengths at all , it generally ran cleaner but as for as sled lengths nothing really , it was hard to judge when I was riding with the ptek on warm days he was slower ,on cold days he was faster ,well on top end anyways , that carbed sled had some legs on cold days

i am thinking it is more than 2-4 HP. But aside from what the HP is, it is about the timing and EFI and oil pump setting up to be more lien after break it and will help the run quality and make the sled crisper. And last night i went for a spin and sled is now down to 25% and i feel that there is a difference from the last time i rode it, whether it is really getting snappier or it is just in my head I am getting a bigger smile every time i pull the trigger on this baby.

If I may, I'd like to offer my experience from last weekend simply as a data point, not an attempt to stir any pots.

My buddy has a 2015 Renegade XRS with just over 500 miles and 96 studs. He weighs about 270lbs. with gear. I have a 2015 Polaris Switchback Assault 800 with 231 miles, no studs and weigh about 245lbs. with gear.

We rode 214 miles of trails with conditions ranging from ruler flat to 3 foot bumpy garbage. We also played off-trail a little bit.

I had the opportunity to ride his sled a little bit and I can say that the rMotion is very impressive. Probably the best rear suspension in the bumps that I've ever ridden. Cornering was pretty flat (flatter than my sled, which I expected), however it pushed a fair amount and he wasn't any 'faster' through the trails than I was (unless it was really bumpy). One thing I also really liked was how smooth the clutching was compared to mine. Engagement was VERY smooth and overall it performed very well. Overall, I really like his sled and perhaps the best way I can desribe it would be to say that it feels more 'refined' than mine.

On Sunday we did a little drag race (twice) on a perfectly flat trail per his request. We went from a 30mph roll both times and I let him get the hit (fully expecting to have him pull away from me anyway) and to our surprise, we were side by side up to about 80mph and then mine pulled ahead and kept pulling away...both times. Interestingly, the recall on his speedo said, "112mph" and mine read "103mph", so I'm not sure what to think of that. I checked mine against my GPS and it shows "101mph". So it appears his is off more than mine.

As an aside, my uncle was a Doo mechanic for about 25 years and my family has owned nothing but Doos since I was born, so there's no issue with my loyalty to any brand. I think they all have something good to offer...I've had good luck with Polaris stuff, but would defnitely look at Doo for my next purchase.

EDIT: Fuel economy-wise, his was about .2 mpg better than mine all weekend...so very close.

I weigh 212 street clothes, ride on torsion Spring 4, and rebound about 7 clicks from soft. as far as break in, you will take between 380-440 miles to get the right amount of gas through it. I have noticed with the 15, the power is sneaky during break-in, I noticed a difference at 22% and then at 5%, again, not OMG, but enough to create a "sheet eat'n grin". As compared to the SC5, you will notice the big difference in the smaller stutter bumps. you will rip across them in the Rmotion, and hardly feel it, vs SC5 you will feel it more. I also notice there is a bit less ski lift coming out of corners on the 15 with the RAS 2. enjoy riding...

So Bharrison24v you want to be talked into a doo, well I own a 15 X Renegade 800 with 1,750 miles and have seat time on a Pro S Switchback with around 1,500 on it. R motion wins hands down so lets get the rear suspension out of the way (NO CONTEST BOTH AGREE). Handling I think the Pro S has a very slight advantage at the moment but that could be just a set of different half inch host wear bars and some more tweaking needed on the Doo, thinner host bars on there at the moment. Power haven't squared off yet and we will but seat of pants it sure feels Pro S is quicker. Would I buy one given how much seat time I have I would consider it but not sure I would be willing to give up the comfy ride the Doo has. Plus I nor he are done making final adjustments so things could change a bit. Gas mileage similiar but Doo wins. Oil usage Polaris wins big. They are both great sleds Polaris did there homework as I was a Polaris faithfull for over 22years and when Doo came out with the Rev in 2003 I ordered thinking it might be just a 1 year thing but just had to try this rider forward thing and until now they never got my attention back. Stay tuned we ride lots together and don't BS each other just tell it like it is and let each other ride each others sleds when asked.

yes my sled of the last two years was a 2012 xtx apex, but my sled for two years before the apex was a 2010 mxz 120" 800 ptek. I am comparing my 800 etec to the 800 ptek i once had. Of course i am going off of memory, but i think it comes down to the fact that etec is sooo smooth that it does not feel fast. I have not opened the sled up for much so I haven't even looked that close at max RPM, it could be over revving for all i know, will have to look at that next time i get to ride, that is whenever more snow shows up...stupid winter get with it and snow!! And I know my 800 renny dont wheelie with the stock 1.25 track. My 2010 120" with 84 studs and 1" track was a wheelie machine pretty much miss the crap out of that sled was the most fun best sled i ever had, i really like my new 2015, just want more "snap" of power which may never happen do to the type of power the etec makes.

"wheelie factor"? Anybody can adjust the limiter and couplers to do that on a 550 fan (I did it on my daughters 380 for fun...then realized I felt like an idiot). ZERO TALENT INVOLVED. Save the money and buy anything to go "wheelie riding".

x2

ive been scoping out the new axys switchback pro x 800. what are your opinions, doo boys?

I'm not brand loyal, talk me into an gade xrs??
Well, arguably (or un-arguably?) the overall most reliable, best performing sleds on the market. And resale values and overall sales numbers reflect that. That doesn't mean they are the best for everyone...just for most.

But any top end sled is pretty sweet right now. Just depends on what "floats your boat".

Rode a `15 Freeride in break in and it had LOTS of power, it impressed me quite a bit actually. It does have a clutch kit on it which may help but I was surprised how much it had even in break in mode (it was almost out of break in so not sure if the progression thing is factual, may have made a difference)

My 2015 is an animal. There's no way I am going to feel a difference after break in. It's already done 108mph on GPS, and completely rips my arms off hitting it from 30-85mph. I have adjusted belt deflection once at 65 miles, and set clickers to #2. (was seeing 8200rpm a few times across the lake).

I am a triple big bore guy, and this 800 twin impresses me quite a bit.

I have a 2010 PTEC Adr (a good one , clutched 1" std track with X pkg shocks and slight mods, very light) . It beats all of my riding buds with newer XRS's and Snopros on the lake and aggressive trail with only prob being a bit more jittery. . I am going to be sorry to see it go as it is over 4000k. GEEZ let us know if its just you. Maybe Doo will find more power or loose weight 2016.

i almost feel that the new etecs as they break in give more power through out break in VS. the older etecs that may have been under powered till after full break in then got the full shot of power all at once. but i could be wrong on that?

#14 ·
That could very well be. I'm not sure how the PCU "lets loose" once it gets broken in on the newer models. Maybe it does let more accessible power out a bit at a time. But mine for sure just "flipped the switch" one minute you are trying feather the flipper trying to stop if from cutting out and bog on you if you are pinching it too much, then, "presto!" all gone. But mine is an '11 which makes it pretty old compared to new stuff anymore. I also hear that the screen gives you a "% of break in" mode now too.

You will feel a slight power increase as you get closer to 250 - 300ish miles but it will not be like OMG! I believe the 2015s increase power in increments as you approach the end of break-in but can't remember the exact numbers. As someone already said, these are the smoothest 2 stoke engines on the market so have deceiving acceleration.

As far as the SC-5 vs. the rMotion, I've had both, SC-5 is a very good suspension but rmotion is better, as a matter of fact, better than any I've ever driven and I've driven many.

it is just the base model adrenaline. So I only have coupling blocks and springs to play with. But if you say it is only going to be slightly better than sc-5 then I guess I am on track. It is a good skit just though it would be a lot better than sc-5. Maybe it will be once it gets freed up a bit from use.

OK yes your sled won't have any adjustment for compression damping.

The rMotion is a better skid than old SC-5 but to me they are sprung too soft. I weigh over 250 lbs though.

Also keep in mind this skid uses ALL of the travel of both front and rear arms and they compress right up into tunnel very far. Other rear suspension do this too but most others are a falling rate which means they get softer as they compress thru their travel. The rMotion is a rising rate so it gets stiffer as it compresses thru its travel. And rMotion has longest front arm travel vs ANY other rear suspension design.

A few more miles and everything will be broken in. If you weigh over 230 lbs you may want to consider installing a stiffer set of torsion springs especially if you can't get 1-2" of sag. More than 2" of sag with spring adjusted to stiffest on the preload blocks means you need stiffer torsion springs.

ok now with that being said can anyone give input to how they feel the rmotion is vs. the previous ski-doo skid found in the XP sleds from 08-current. I feel my sled rode well but i let a buddy ride it while i rode his 2009 600 etec i thought his sled rode equally as good as rmotion. Maybe i am too stiff on the skid as i was told rmotion skids like to be set up soft. i am at #2 all around on the skid, maybe i need to try the softest setting?? Or maybe my standards were just set way to high for this skid, it rides well and seemed to do everything well. I am just shocked at how well the older skid set up did vs. the latest and greatest.

What is your weight? rMotion is set up soft for most people especially with the torsion springs. Does your sled have the Quick Adjust? I would set up torsion spring preload so you have 1-2" of sag. with rider mounted on sled in full riding gear.

Compared with old SC-5 rMotion is
slightly better but compared with Rush from ANY year it is superior in EVERY way.

I don't have tons of experience with Gades but if you have a gade with X package your sled has a rear track shock with adjustable compression damping. Try moving that a few clicks to feel the difference and see where you like it the best.
