I put reverse on my wifes 02 z 570 the gaer whine will drive you nuts and there is alot of drag. It will slow you right down when you let off the gas. I think I got it together right. The reverse works good. The whine is in both forward and reverse. What do ya think.

Adjusting reverse linkage:

Start the engine;then test the shifting characteristics of the reverse transmission.

If adjustment of the reverse gear is necessary, stop the engine and remove the chain case inspection plug located behind the oil level stick;then insert the Reverse Gear Adjustment Gauge completely into the inspection hole.

Pull the shift lever into the reverse position while holding the adjustment gauge firmly against the chain case cover.Slight outward pressure should be felt on the gauge as the lever locks into reverse.

If no contactis noted, loosen the jam nuts securing the lower shift linkage and adjust the linkage roduntil the gauge is pushed out of the chain case[.015].Lock the adjustment by tightening the jam nuts securely against the tie rod ends.

Install the inspection plug.

Start the engine;then test the shifting characteristics of the reverse transmission.Adjust as necessary.

Hope this helps

I ran and am still using the auto adjuster on all my cats Never and issue and I run high milage and hard.Main concern to me is get it adjusted rightand make sure your lever doesn't pop into forward while your going backwards as it does a number on your spring pins.No idea why yours is whining.Post a pic with the cover off and we will soon tell you if the installation is wrong. The adjusting directions just given to you are right on the money.I always prefer to make sure my lever stays in reverse mode. The only way I could acheive this was to adjust the link a bit more than needed. You can experment your self but make sure you have the right adjustment in the meantime.Maybe someone else can explain to me how this is acheived easier.Good luck

I too had problems with the reverse popping out.I found out[my dealer actually found out for me]that the linkage when I put it back on,I installed it on the undersideof the arm that is on the chaincase cover instead of on the top. It's amazing how just something that was easily overlooked[patieance on my part would have helped]could throw the whole thing out of wack.

Allright back to the drawing boards... I set the reverse with the cat tool no problem. Still didn't help. Pulled the cover off and the chain was so tight I couldn't move it with a screw driver so I pulled that auto tensioner out and put the manual one back in that helped but still isn't right. So I have some ??? I put a 1/1/4 track on it at the same time I put the reverse in. The track came off my 02 zr 600. Would that have anything too do with it?? I used the stock back half of the chain case. Is the reverse one different?? For whatever reason the driveing teeth on the track are getting chewed up. Do the 570 have different drivers?? I was told that the stock drive axel would work fine. Is that true?? It sure seemed simple when I put it together but now it is kicking my ass. Any info might help, Let me have it THANKS.. :banghead:

that damn reverse chain case has always been a pain in the ass.........if i were you i would just put it back to standard chain case, chances are 99% as soon as you get it right , its gonna tear up.....you should be able to start that 570 fan backwards off the clutch , boys here do it all the time , i will find out what year thier sleds are...
arctic will have an electronic reverse soon , it will retro-fit all B.E.F.I. sleds.....so just chill........ :share_doobie:

the standard chaincase and the reverse chaincase are the same part #

check the top gear for the right amount of shims.... take a small straight edge and place it on the face of the bottom gear, slide it up to the top gear , top gear SHOULD NOT lift the straight edge/and NO gap between top gear face and straight edge. to go flush with the top gear. add/remove shims behind top gear to achieve flush fit results

from what i can see in the pics the shaft with the 2 little gears looks very shiny, like its been spinnin in the case cover , there is a washer that goes between that outer gear and the cover, also wondering about the track pitch , should be 2.52... maybe thats a 3....
when you pulled the drive shaft did you undo the speedo bearing and lock collar, and pull it all into the chain case with the bottom bolt and then assemble the speedo side last? wondering also if you ever had the drivers changed?
also looks like the chain retainer ,little bracket near the double gears, could be pushed towards the case a little bit more, kinda close to the chain there.
do you have 4 drivers on the drive shaft or 2 drivers in the middle and a wheel on each end?

When you put the driveshaft in, did you put the bottom sprocket and bearing on first, before you tightened the lock collar on the speedo side driveshaft bearing? You should do that first, cause the postions the the driveshaft side to side in the tunnel....might be something to check...
