I have a 2013 xf 1100 turbo sno pro sled. I went to back the sled up today. I put it in reverse then slowly pressed the gas like I always do when in reverse and it started to back up for a second then all I heard was grinding. So me and my buddy pulled the sled backwards where I needed to go. Put it in reverse again and slowly pressed the gas and it backed up a few feet without any issues. So I drove it home went to back it in the garage and the same thing happened. I tried a second time with the same result. Then the third time It backed up without grinding. First off I dont know much about mechanics so what is that grinding sound Im hearing? Second I called my dealer and he told me I need to bring it in and have it looked at because if there is pieces of metal floating around from being damaged that it could affect me going forward also. I asked if it would be covered under warranty if something was broke in there. He told me if it looks like the gears were tore up and ground off that warranty wouldnt cover it because that would supposdly be "my fault". Ive had this thing in reverse maybe a dozen times since ive owned it and I baby the gas when in reverse. I will be one pissed off guy if they wont cover it under warranty because I sure as shit didnt do anything to make the reverse stop working.

I have the same sled ,but no issues so far. Others have. Somebody will probably chime in here. I would say Cat would cover it. This machine is no Mt. Sled,so I do not know why they did not put in a simple push/pull linkage in, instead of trying to make putting these turbos in reverse like the 2 strokes do with the bush button. Just MHO.

I've got a '12XF with the '13 update... 1000km later & I had the same problem last week - got new gears & jackshaft, dealer didn't even question what happened.

They said the jackshaft splines were twisted & the top gear was damaged.

Get a new dealer!

Last weekend I backed my 2013 XF1100 off the trailer, pulled it around and backed up to my truck to fill it.Then took off rode a 100 miles, pulled in to a resturant and went to back into a space and got an ECU-25 code no reverse. That Sunday on the way home I stopped at the dealer and they took it right in,the reverse has a magnet that makes a motor that puts it into reverse,it had a lot more sticky glue than needed to hold the magnet in place and the magnet couldn't work though all the sticky stuff (more than 2mm thick) the sled had only 400 miles on it

There is no way in hell that shouldn't be covered. Dont let your dealer jerk you around, many have been repaired under warranty with this same issue. The grinding sound was your reverse sprocket trying to engage but for whatever reason only partially engaging.....

On mine the reverse problems(after updated shift fork) were from wear on jackshaft and reverse gear. Reverse would rarely work. Most times it wouldnt shift at all and id get code 25. I installed Belangers jackshaft and a new reverse gear(splines bent on old reverse gear) and my reverse has worked flawless everytime. Its been working so good I actually count on it working now and set my belt deflection closer to where it should be. I coated the splines with synthetic grease and used half synthetic 85-140 gearlube and synthetic chaincase oil for chaincase.

Cat will cover it my dealer took my reverse out last year when they heard of all the problem. Got a new jackshaft an reverse in the fall (2013 specs) now the reverse went out again been at the dealer for over a week an there finally going to straight drive it again for me so no reverse cause the reverse gears back ordered till April. Makes you wonder when someone up above said the jackshaft are back ordered to then to that cat pulled all stock till they have 2014 specs in??

For anyone having their dealer tell them it's not covered, call Cat direct 218-681-8558 and tell them your story, it's amazing how quick a dealer will change their story when AC chews them a new asshole. NOT that this has happened to me, but I asked Polaris once a question about my Rush and the dealer was calling me an hour later and ever so nice to me. So don't take no for an answer.

You really need a new dealer!
This problem has been going on since the procross came out. Dealers all over the country are fixing it at Cats expense.

Yesterday The dealer didn't say for sure if it would be covered or not they would have to tear into it and see what they have. I took it in this morning and I just got a call back And it was built in the time frame where it needed the reverse update but it never got one. I never got a service bulletin from cat to get tis update done. I picked the sled up in late august and from what I can tell the bulletin got sent out in September? I was never informed that I needed this update. The dealer said it will be covered under warranty since it never got the update.
