A buddy of mine called me while I was on the road yesterday, explaining his 2012 Switchback 600 has been using a LOT of oil lately and it's smoking way more than it has in the past. It's got around 5500 miles on it, and he's wondering if it's a sign of things starting to go.
I told him the first EASY thing to look at is his oil pump, and specifically to make sure the throttle is still moving the pump arm. If for whatever reason that's not working it would be running full bore with the pump wide open, right? Beyond that, I'm not sure what it would be other than the pump itself? :dunno: I guess I'd rather see it using more oil than not, despite it leaning out the fuel.
