hey guys, i'm not much of a ski-doo guy, however i can get my hands on a 2006 Ski-Doo MXZ 500 SS. i am thinking about getting it for my girlfriend. she has never ridden before, would this be a good sled for her to start out on? she loves the color yellow (we all know color is very important to the choice in sled for a girl...) and she wants a skidoo. and i was figuring that with teh rev platform she would have a more comfortable and enjoyable ride rather than getting her an older sled then have her have a bad experience and not want to snowmobile anymore. just wondering how this sled runs. any major problems? fuel milage? top speeds? the sled only has 600 miles and the guy is asking $5500; is this too much to pay for this sled? or should i be looking for a different type of sled? thanks!

Bulletproof motor, great mileage, moderate price---you won't get hurt. Just keep watch on the reed cages, some delamination and oxidation can occur. Very sound sled!

Great sled. Price is a little high. Price should be low 5s, high 4s. Garneaus Garage (NH forum sponser and my dealer) has an 06 GSX (estart, etc.) for $5795 brand new (the only thing is it is not yellow).

Good luck.

What ^^^ he said. Got one for my son last year - leftover 06 500SS Adr. He had a 05 550F before that. I have the same motor in my GTX. No lack of power and great mileage. Get one w/ electric start or add one.

I think that asking price may be a tad high. I see a dealer in eastern NY advertising a new leftover 07 MXZ Adr 500SS w/ e start for $5899.

Your GF may like the GSX better. It has estart, a high windshield and mirrors.

Check xtreme powersports not too for from you. As mentioned Garneau's in Twin Mtn NH has a 06 GSX in black. They are a great dealer to deal with.

the price is a bit high as others have stated. top speed 100 on the dremometer, therabouts. good fuel mileage at 14-16 on avg. good mid range power and light enough she can throw it around. i have an 04 gsx (modded a bit for her). she likes it alot,no complaints. i have rode it a few times and it does move! i'd find a gently used one with less than 1k for 1500 or so cheaper,or in the low 4k range. the motors are very reliable. the intake boots as previously stated can cause issues evntually, keep an eye on them. the front a-arm bushings get whooped after a couple thousand miles too, there are better ones available to replace the stock plastic ones.
get her the yellow one,she wont know the difference!

I just bought a brand new 07 for $5500 so the price might be a little high, but with 600 miles shes just broke in. I guess I wouldnt pay no more then 4700 to 5000. Never got to ride mine so I couldnt tell you how it performs but I bought it for a reason.... read these boards and dootalk.com not a bad thing is said about the SS!
