Okay just to recap current plans for the behind screen glovebox heat.. Will leverage Skidoo 3 watt heater pad connected to the accessory power connector on the hood harness as suggested by ExcursionPSD so the wiring is self contained on the hood. If I was putting the heater in a handlebar bag as in the Plum Crazy build I would have used the 12V tap for the heated shield. Thank you for all your suggestions and input.

One question for Excursion.... As I have not yet pulled the hood to install (parts have yet to arrive).... is the power plug for the accessory lights switched with high beam? If so is there a separate non-switched plug for the 12V accessory plug (cigarette lighter).

How do you keep the phone from beating itself to death and breaking off the charging plug? Stuff in my glove box looks like it went through the blender

If I can keep the phone warm, it will usually hold a charge for the days ride. If it is a concern, I bring an external battery pack to charge or run it with if needed.
I too worry about the delicate plugs on the phones in a snowmobile environment. If I needed to have phone on charger while I rode, I would pick up one of the USB connected car wireless chargers that clamp the phone, leave the mount part off, and stuff it the glovebox protected with a hat or gloves. On the plus side, wireless charging will heat the compartment too

I am pretty sure that he used the ACCESSORY Power connector in the hood harness. Several accessories want to use this, including the 12 volt power receptacle (cigarette lighter) and the Auxiliary lights (Punch or flood).

As it is used for the 12 volt power receptacle, The ACCESSORY plug is powered when the sled is running. I also use an Ottie car mount, manually clamped to the phone, without the portion that attaches it to the dashboard. Used some foam and some tape to protect and secure the plug going into the Ottie, and use the 7S USB port for phone power.

I stick a foot warmer on the back of my phone case to keep it warm, must be the sticky kind or it won't work. Learned this standing on the side of a ski hill all day for my kids snowboard racing.

Handlebar mount for the phone, forget which one I use, but it was one of the universal ones.....believe it said it was for a dirt bike on Amazon. Then my phone is plugged into a USB battery pack that gets stuffed in the glove box for extra battery capacity just in case cause I haven't added the charging port on the sled yet. Phone stays on the whole time I'm riding because I use the Polaris App for navigation, can make it an entire day without the phone dying, but heat to the phone is key.....hence the foot warmer. I don't have the fancy 7S gauge, but the app works perfect for me.

If you plan on adding accessory lights,punch/flood, you will need to get a 12v splitter.

So the 3W skidoo heater is installed in the glove box... It gets warm to the touch, but not hot in 32 degree Ambient temps. Time will tell if he keeps my water bottle in liquid form and goggles less frosty or if I need more wattage. Higher wattage panels are available from sources other than Ski Doo.

Stuff needed: Skidoo handlebar bag heater: Ski-Doo 515176786
Polaris power connector: 850/650 STD 2 Prong for 12v stock Plug or splitter | CatzAss
Spare heated shield battery connector I had on hand.

Steps:
0) Remove hood and disconnect acc 12V connector that is taped to wiring harness.
1) Drill 7/32's hole through glove box for heated shield cable.
2) Smooth sharp edges of aluminum Ski Doo plate
3) Cover plate with Capton tape to provide additional protection to items in glove box.
4) Use VHB tape to affix plate to side of glove box, heating element out toward box.
5) Cut off the power connector from catzass plug discard unused part, strip insulation from wires.
6) Lace the heated shield cable up through hold drilled in glove box.
7) Cut heated shield cable to length and strip out interior wires and insulation. This was a PITA, toughest outter shield I have ever run across, regular wire strippers did not cut it. What did work, was using utility knife, cut enough of the outer shield to access the inner wires. Pulled out one of the wires and used that to tear the shield by pulling on the red wire and black wire in opposite directions. Then cut off torn outer shield and stripped wires as usual.
8) Positioned three pieces of heat shrink tubing on the wires, one on red, one on black, and a larger one to go over both when done.
9) Soldered polaris connector wires to the heated shield wires.
10) Heat gun to shrink the two tubes over red and black wires (keep the larger one out of range of the heat gun). Then positioned larger one over the wires and shrunk it.
11) re-taped the 12V Acc Connector with the heater connected to the harness. Push excess cable into glove box.
12) zip tie excess cable in the glove box neatly and bury under baggied owners manual.

I have the behind the 7S compartment bag and never had a problem with any snow dust or wetness. If you took a few of the extra large hand warmers and threw them in there while riding your phone would likely be just fine. I just tuck it in my tekvest or inside jacket pocket and never freezes up. I like the idea of the heated pad inside as a permanent option.

I use the divider insert and a thick stocking cap or you could slip it into a thick sock

Just following up, 3W skidoo heater was not enough. Swapped in a 12V 1 amp (12W) beehive heater off of amazon. Still just nicely warm to touch, but not enough to melt anything. But noticibly warmer than the 3W pad. Will try this next season.
