My riding buddy has the 2017 XCR 121" 2.52" pitch Cobra track shaved about 1/4" with 240 1.45" Gold digger studs. Also has the BMP stage II kit with around 175 hp. Has 1.68 gearing.

I have the 2015 Pro-S 800 Switchback with 137" 2.86" pitch Ripsaw II track and 240 1.45" Gold digger studs. I'm geared at 1.86. Have the BMP stage I kit at around 170 hp.

We race all the time. Mostly on hardpack roads.
He has no obvious advantage on acceleration or top end.

IMO, the RipsawII track is a better accelerating track on hardpack than the Cobra. Regardless of pitch.

Might be a different story if all tracks are the same style.:bc:

Just found a lot of info that says a 2.52 pitch track top ends better so I was curious

 

I thought Polaris purposely went with the 2.52" pitch on the XCR for that exact reason ... when running x-country they want every advantage they can get, and the 2.52 top ends the 2.86, all else being equal.

 

I’m in the same boat as Bontz is with the 2.52 rolling a bit better up top. When I had a couple of procross cats in my stable I heard that D&D was testing 2.52’s in their sleds and seeing improvements in topend.

The 128 2.52 also has more lugs on the ground than a 129 2.86 correct ? So it should also hook better.

Given I’m 240-250 the xcr is looking like a no brainer. Better shocks and stronger chassis. Slightly faster. Marginally more expensive. 137 sounds appealing but I’m definitely more of a trail rider here in Michigan

Hopefully the 21 xcr snowcheck colors are a bit better than this year. They were ok but I liked the regular Indy color selection better

 

Also given I ride mostly trails what would you guys think of getting a 14x128 1 inch lug hacksaw and then studding it?

Should really hit some good numbers top end. Will the 14 inch track work ? They make a 15 inch for the 2.56 as well.

 

if anyone with a 2020 XCR and a 128" Cobra wants a speed track, I'll be happy to trade+cash for one.

As others have mentioned I’m sure there will be a 136” along with the 128” xcr for model year 21. Either way you can’t go wrong especially when the trails get rough, just a no brainer.

 

I really like a nicely studded 1 inch track for the riding I do in the trails here. Plus I’ll get a nice top end

So does anyone know if a 14 will work? Is it worth anything over a 15? If it’s marginal I’m guessing the 15 hooks better

I ran a 14” wide hacksaw on my 07 F1000 back in the day it was just another piece of the performance puzzle. To be honest with you I haven’t seen anyone running a 14” in some years, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able run one on a new xcr. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

 

Really thinking the upgraded shocks will be great for my 250 in the rough Michigan trails at times

 

So a new xcr on a 14x128x1 2.52 pitch should be pretty fast no?
