How do you properply insert the cir clip or wrist pin clip into a piston.

Does the open end go up or down, or does it go sideways ?

Zr500 motor.

up, or down, as long as it's not to the side. The theory is if it's sideways, the up and down movement of the piston can cause the clip to compress slightly, increasing the chance of it coming out. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Put the clip in with the gap down.

Just curious why down would be better than up? My manual says up or down, but not why. (just did my 600, and I did them down)

this an old old debate, you can argue where the most stress is at the bottom of the pin where the force is met after it combusts or if the force is at the bottom once the piston is accelerated and is on its way back up.

I agree.

I had one pop out on me and they were all sideways. My mechanic who is very knowledgable says to have the gap down is best.

Good luck,
Dean
