Why are 2003 XCSP 600's so fast?!?!?!? I don't understand... it's stock... my buddy smokes like everything he goes agenst, firecat 600's, and other 600 and 700's. The only thing he can not beat is a 04 XCSP 600 thats also stock too and he only beats him by like a ski length. What is the stock hp for the 03 xcsp 600 and why are these sleds so darn fast for stock? My buddy also has a stock 1 inch track...

I have a '04 600. Very good sled.

If he wants it to scream even more, tell him to put in an almond-blue primary spring, 60 gram weighs, lower gears & a 1.25" lug ripsaw. The things really wake up. The only stocks sleds I can't keep up with are the 800cc's and above and the F7. Not bad for a 600cc IMHO.

any 600 poo when set up will run well up to 80 or so, then peter out.

Not gonna beat a 98 600 though. No chance.[/b]
That's a pretty bold statement so here is another..........A '00 600ves will stomp the 98 600 anywhere

The 1.25" track is going to hurt the sled's top speed though. I had a 1.25" Ripsaw on my sled last winter and I lost 5 mpy on the topend. I went from a top speed of 100 mph to 95 mph.

:BSmeter: Just because you say it, that doesnt make it true. I had a '98 600 XC and the smallblock with VES would stomp all over the bigblock. I do think that the '98 looks better with the wedge hood and sounds a lot better, but theres no way a bigblock 600 would beat a smallblock VES 600. The smallblock has a 10 hp advantage and the exhaust valves make it run more efficiently all the way from idle to redline.

so the 98 xc's were big block 600's? so when did they start the small block 600 with ves? what is the horsepower for the big blocks and the small blocks with ves?

I think you might be surprised about that non ves, I had a 99 700 xcsp and my body had a 2003 xcsp I had an 1.25" track and he had a one inch. We would be neck and neck everytime up to about 70 mph after that I would pull away. He would get so mad and I never understood it. They were both stock.

The 1998 600 BB has 105 HP
The 2000 and newer 600 VES has 115 to 118HP (2003 and newer got a bigger airbox inlet)
The 700 non VES has 120 to 125 Hp
The 700 VES range from 120 to 133 HP, for some reason 2003 and up need some help somewhere, IMHO.
There is no doubt the wedge / Xtra10 is faster than the Edge chassis, so it is not just about horsepower.
FYI, a lighter person on an edge chassis actually went slower in a 1,000 ft radar run, same sled, just because it sat too high and extra suspension drag it creates. Aint this computer racing great!!!

Polaris started using the small block with VES in '00. The 600 bigblock made 110 hp, the 600 smallblock with VES makes 110 with the octane switch set to regular and 115 with it set to premium.
I think the best year for the 600 was '00. It had the smallblock 600 engine with VES, but it was in the Gen2 chassis with XTRA-10 rear suspension. The Gen2s had slightly better top speed than did the EDGEs.

I know we are not talking about a xc 700 but my brother could keep up to and sometimes pass my xc 700 and I won alot of radar run trophys with it.

For those of you who doubt the 98 600, line up with one that is properly set up. I have owned and ridden both the 98 6, 98 7, 01 6, 02 7 and the 98 600 was by far the quickest to the century mark of the 600 group. HP does not always mean faster, and not always do the sleds put out what they are supposed to. The 2002 700 was a runner. With twin pipes, and all the goodies on a 98 600, it would beat the 2002 700 all the way. If any of you doubters want to run a 98 700, i still have that one and it will easily waste any stock 6 or 700. Proved it all new years. Think before you type.

And also, the 2000 VES 600 was a runner, but no where near my 98 600.

Dude my 98 600 would waste your 01 edge too. My old man has an 01 edge 600, good engine but it ain't no lake runner like the 98.
