I bought a used F1000 and had a DD go out recently and when I took it to the dealer, I found out that there is still Cat warranty on it. How ever I have to have this put into my name. However the original owner Roy Taghon from Empire MI. was killed on the snowmobile Jan 20th of 08. How did it happen and was my or his at the time F1000 damaged? What can I do to get the warranty into my name. At this point I need to know who it was sold to after his death. Or get a hold of a family member that can sign off the warranty. The research I have done so far sounds like he was a very helpful and well know member here on HCS. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks, Jeff Jones

Have to tell you..you're not coming across very Classy.
Why even think of contacting the family?
The fellow loses his life and all you can think about is if you can transfer the warranty or if the sled was damaged.

Contact the dealer, perhaps they'll contact the manufacturer for you.[/b]
I wouldn't be asking for advise if the dealer wasn't helping me. They are the ones that gave me the info so far and are also trying to find out what to do. I simply was trying to get some info. to get the warranty since it is transferable, and it has been inspected by the dealer and qualifies for warranty. Believe me, I also believe it to be low class to contact the family, but someone on HCS might now something to help, isn't that what forums are for? I think its low class to call me out when you don't know the whole situation...WOULDN'T you want to know if your sled may have been smashed? All the plastics have no decals except for the large F1000 on the side panel. It makes me wonder why. Maybe an accident at somepoint or this accident caused the problem, don't know but, I sure do want to find out. Sorry if I sound a little annoyed, just frustrated and looking at a $ 1,500.00 repair bill when the sled has transferable warranty.

I can concur that you don't need anything from the previous owner to transfer the warranty. All it takes is a phone call to Arctic Cat customer service (I called the local one here in Manitoba). If this dealer is giving you trouble, see if you can find another one within driving distance that can help you, I don't think phoning the family under any conditions is a good idea.

I took all the stickers off the TZ1 the first night I had it. No stickers doesn't mean anything. I would agree that contacting the family under ANY terms reguarding this is low class and insensitive. Not trying to "call you out" just staing a view from the outside. Somehow I think if I lost a loved one and someone contacted me reguarding the warrenty, I would tell them to take a hike. You come across as selfish and chep. If it was that big a concern why buy the sled? Man up, and leave the poor family alone to heal. Post like this one makes you wonder why a unselfish , helpful, giving person like Roy was taken when??????????????????????

I agree and I will not contact the family, I did kinda state that, but wasn't what I wanted to do.

Thanks,

Jeff

UPDATE: I finally got a hold of Corner Stone Cat Car, and its a copy of the bill of sale OR registration. My dealer told me a copy of the bill of sale only and it had to be from the original owner of the warranty.....frustrating...any way sorry to make the statement about contacting the family, that's not like me and not something after thinking about it that I would do. However I still would like to know if my sled was wrecked. I hope that that isn't offensive. Does any one know?

Glad to hear that. I know that it can really piss ya off trying to get the dealer and builder to stop paper fucking ya. I don't know the status condition of the sled after the accident. Does it have a salvage title?

Just to let you guys know, Roys uncle and other family members just had the second annual Roy T memorial ride from the airport to his favorite hot dog and root beer spot up in Maple City a couple Sundays ago. We ended up with over 100 sleds at last count. Very classy, the local news was there to cover it, the ride marshalls had roads blocked so everyone could cross safely and together and it was a fine reception with Roys favorite drink, a glass of root beer being toasted, AHHHH!!! Once again they raised a bit of money and shared some great memories of Roy. I am not sure if anyone else saw it, but when we were riding across the airport right before hitting the trail a bright beam of sunshine broke through the clouds for a very short time. I Gotta believe it was Roy porting out the clouds and letting us all know he was goin' ridin' !!

The guy I bought it from wrote me a bill of sale that I took to the Sectratary of State and they issued me a new registration and didn't say anything at all if there was something not right, however the Serial number didn't register so she just added as a new one or whatever they do. They then kept the bill of sale. So I had no reason to believe it was totaled other than the stickers. It seems to be a great sled. I guess I'm just currious as it really won't matter at this point. It will be kinda weird riding the sled again.

Your sled should have salvage title if it was totaled by the insurance. They kept the bill of sale? Thats strange....They gave me mine back. When I bought my gf's sno pro we just had to call Cat directly and they transfered the warranty.

roy was my best friend ,the sled was totaled by his insurance company, his parents received the money and then was donated in his memory to varios charitys,i was not with roy this day when it happened ,but two of my very good friends were.the sled was not in good shape,as it flew over 300 feet tumbling ,so someone put alot of work into it .as for your direct drive going bad ,is most likely caused from a seriosly bent chassis.this sled hit very hard on driveshaft front arm assembly.most likely as soon as you remove suspension you will see the damage. hope this helps . tracy.

I don't think anything you have said or done have been offensive. To me, you are simply looking for some facts about a Machine, end of story.[/b]
I was going to say the same thing. I would have no problem with someone contacting me for legitimate information. In fact, it would probably bring back some good memories of the person that passed. I see nothing inappropriate about it as long as the person does it with tact. If I could be of help to someone, I'd want to do it. If you've ever lost someone, you realize life must go on.

As for it being damaged or not, ask your insurance company if they have any way to search for a claim on the VIN?

Well if the family is having rides to commemorate his life, i doubt very much they would care if he contacted them. My dad died very early in his life if someone called today asking about something he had and wanted info on it it would be kinda cool to talk to them.

Sometimes it is easier to make the pain go away if you talk about the good things that happened in someones life, rather than just bottle it up inside.

Wow, that explains allot. Tracy thank you so much for contacting me, you are a very nice guy, and from what I have read and found about Roy, and from what you talked about in our phone conversation, your lucky to have had him in your life as a great friend. As I mentioned the sled looks great again, and I will continue to take very good care of it.

Thanks again,

Jeff

I agree here. Maybe contacting the family wasn't the best of ideas, but, to get bashed like you did wasn't right either. I would want to know the history of my sled, too,
if I found out there was a chance it might have been in a bad wreck. I think anybody would.
It's a shame but you found out exactly what you feared. Have to say, I think it's time to trade.
