Hey guys, waiting for MY26 VR1 137 850 Dynamix sled to come in and thinking about not studding it this time. Never been impressed with the factory round bar scags and wanted to run StudBoy shapers. What length would you go with if not studding?

What track? I really like my igrip screw in studs. Perfect combination of traction when you need it and being able to rotate the sled when you want to.
I have a SBA 146" 1.6" unstudded and I'm very happy with Pro Steer skis and 8" Stud Boy Shaper bars. I'm big on having my sled rotate around the corner and this setup work well for me.
I have found the longer carbides last longer vs the shorter ones. Brand really hasn’t made a difference for me, I have run 8-10 with and without studs
Ran a set of 8" Shapers on my last weekend of season with 1.352 Cobra on a 128 9R. Too much. Ran 6" Mavericks and 6" Shapers on the same sled and 24 XCR 128. As Goldilocks would say "Just Right"
Yes, as noted, I run the same setup. I like an aggressive front end because I like the rear to be lose. When conditions are right and I'm on a good jam, the front-end bites and I turn with the track. It's pure bliss.
I don't care for shapers, but outside of them any round or square bar with 8-10" of carbide. The fatter the carbide the better. Positive side is they will last for years. Down side they can be a little grippy at 1st until the sharp edge comes off. IMO the diameter, length & shape of the host bar has a greater effect on steering aggressiveness.
I ran Woodys 10” comp Carbides for many years when on my ZRs and Yamahas not available to over counter sales. Race teams only could by them. They were not something out of this world but they were made to last and bite! They had 60* shape carbide so thick ya just couldn’t wear them out. I ran them through a lot of crap too! Even could sharpen them from time to time. Im confident I averaged 8000 miles on a set. The host part of the bar would wear away before the carbide part was dead. I know they aren’t for everyone.
These are my favorites. Lots of bite, and last a long time! Ones on the left have ~2500 miles on them with A LOT of crappy rocky conditions. Ones on the right are new new!
Snow studs square bar and 8” carbide will outlast 3 pair of shapers if you have a rock or stump hit once in awhile. Close to 3500 miles on a set last year in not the best conditions by any means and probably will be good to go for a couple thousand more
Thanks guys for the great feedback. It helps me eliminate the guessing on what to do when I get my new sled.
