What's in it now? I'm very happy with the 21/41 gears In my 13 XF.

 

I'll second this. Put in 21/41 in mine this year, great all around gear ratio. The sled hauls ass in trails....

It won't be winning speed runs but you'll definitely give an f1100 a run for its money in a drag race

 

taylor 22/41 almost as good as the 21/41 with a tad more up top

 

What did the 13 come with stock for gears?
I added a 1.75 back country this year and think I need to gear it down abit...

 

I do believe it's got the 21/41 in it....just looking for a little more top end out of it

 

If the 2013 XF does not have the updated gearing it will likely have 21-38 in it which I find to high for anything other than top end running. If it has the update it will have 21-41. I am a big believer in the 21-41 gearing in the XF turbo especially with the 1.75 or larger track. You still have 100 MPH capability and it works much better when boondocking, Higher gearing in deeper snow = higher clutch and belt temps = reduced belt life. My 2 cents.

I changed my track in the fall and never checked the gears I have...

 

Just looked on the parts fiche and it shows either a 37t or a 48t...
and shows the top as a 22t

 

48 was installed in high country's with 2.25 tracks... That gearing tops out at 95. I just pulled that out of mine when I did the track swap from my powerclaw to a 1.6 cobra

Might try 22/41 next year since have a 22 top gear laying around

 

so im at 22.37
im running a 1.75 backcountry, slingshot flash, full exhaust
0-90mph is more important than top end to me. I ride off trail a lot as well...
right now I have a bit of a bog since the new track when I hammer it out of the hole.

 

I had a 2013 XFSP 1100 T 141 with 1.75 back country and 21-41 it worked very well. I now have a 2014 XFSP 9000 137 with 21-41 and 1.75 back country it works very well also. 41 t # 2602-522 and 21 T is # 1702-202. I ride 50-50 on and off trail.

Ran 21/49 last year and found it too low. RevX flashed ECU this year I tried 22/48. Was better but still too low for me. Put the 21/41 back in and it seems perfect for running 50/50 trail to off trail. Have 2.25 PC track.

No problem keeping the front end in the air running the deep, insane on trail and smoked 3 Doos and Poo across a lake this weekend. :buttrock:

 

If you have 22-37 it is an 84 pitch chain, you will require an 86 pitch for the 21-41 gearing. Cat was selling a complete kit part number 1702-336 for about $100 Canadian a few years back that included both gears and chain but the discount for the kit ended last March I believe. The kit is now $318 Canadian which is still a little cheaper than buying the 3 parts seperately

Yes correct this is the new updated borg warner version, Canadian pricing on it is about $335.

 

^^^ thats 13 wide and rexnard gear...barely okay for stock power with positive traction IMHO go big or go home...taylor gears 22/41

 

Agree SJ, no question, they are the best on the market and that's what I am using, got them from Turbie a few years ago when they were about $600, problem is now with poor Canadian dollar and all right now cost is close to $900 for the Taylor set up by the time you get it here. It's a tough pill for some guys to swallow.

what about going to a 48 bottom... or would that be too much gear?

 

22-48 requires a 90 pitch chain and I think you will find this gearing a little to low. I used it in my 2013 XF when we were trying to cure belt issues in the 2012-13 season. It helped a bunch with clutch/belt temp but you then have a 95 MPH sled, great bottom end and easier on belts (even with bad clutch alignment as this was before the alignment tools were developed) but top end was lacking. With your existing gearing assuming 22-37 not much you can do unless your prepared to buy the chain also.

 

I may sell the 22/48 gears and chain I tested. Less than 10 miles. If you want to test it for yourself I can let you know once I see what I was into it for. I do think it's too low especially with an ECU reflash. IT's exactly as WWR stated.

Upgrade kit, 2016 gears and chain and it includes the new tensioner. Borg Warner stuff, much better than the 2012-2015 stuff. I've asked but still haven't heard of a 16 breaking the chain.. Yes it's 13 wide, but still much stronger than the old 15 wide. At a 1/4 the price of the next step, Taylor stuff which is top notch no doubt.

Here is the part numbers for 15 wide Borg Warner chain and gears, was told I could get em as exported sleds had the wider chain and gears. I ended up getting the 13 wide kit cause this would have takin longer than I wanted to wait.

Nobody has any miles on any 16's yet with this crap winter. Back in 12 the chain and gear issues didn't show up till over 2000 miles and the following year. Are you absolutely sure the gears are borg warner, does it say borg warner on them?. If it's what there putting in the 16's the gears are the same crap metal like 12-15's but now only 13w, tested the metal. The chain is better for 16 is the only upgrade on the 2016's. If your running stock boost you'll probably be fine but ask the thundercat and zr900 guys how the 13w gears held up. They didn't.

 

Not saying anything other than I believe it's better than the earlier stuff, 15 wide Borg Warner would have been better. No question Taylor's would be best. Anybody broke a 16 chain yet stock or trail boosted?

 

24-46 (1.91) that would be very close to the 21-41... what kind of top end are guys getting...
could also go 23-47 (2.04) what would that be like...
I know guys are saying the 22-48 (2.18) is too much gear. tops speed around 95 mph

 

I was very happy with 21/41 this past weekend in my RevX tuned sled. Could not imagine using anything lower anymore.
