Thinking About Trying Polaris For Model Year 2024

I have been riding for a handful of years now and have been exclusively a Ski-Doo guy up to this point and will be for the 22-23 riding season as well. However, I am the type of guy that likes to try different things and am heavily considering putting in a SnowCheck for a Polaris sled or two for model year 2024 next spring. Trail riding is what I do so looking at the Indy SP, XC, or VR1 with a 650 and I don't expect there to be many changes to these models for MY 24 so I feel I can use the current lineup as a good indicator of what I'll be getting. Are there any significant differences between the three models besides the obvious ones like the shock packages, gauge, and track/motor selections? Curious why the Polaris website lists the VR1 as weighing 476 lb. while the SP weighs 508 lb. when they are the same Matryx chassis now and same 650 engine? Trying to watch all the videos I can on YouTube in the meantime to learn more about Polaris sleds.

I complement you on doing research as you are considering a new sled. One of the sleds you are researching comes with standard electric start including a battery.

The book weight on a 650 VR1 129 is 467 lb. the 137 is 476 lb.

You should get out and weigh that Green and Yellow 7.6L that you work with.

I am a heavier guy, around 250 lb. Tend to ride a variety of trails, some fast and smooth, others tight, narrow and with lots of bumps. Trying to pick up speed, especially in corners as I continue to improve my riding ability.

I stand corrected. Looked at the specs Roller posted and the XC overall length in his screenshot is longer, so I assumed he had two different length skids in his comparison. The e-start being the 32 lb. difference is correct.

Good luck with your research Roller. Both Levi LaVallee and Brooke (Lenn) Johnson have some good content on YouTube talking about the Matryx sleds.
Yeah I have watched every video from Levi so far on his Matryx sleds.

What type of Ski Doo are you on? TnT 129 or Adrenaline 137 or X or XRS? Does your current sled give you the ride your looking for suspension wise? Is GPS gauge a factor? You can kinda cross compare models of brands the SP is much like a Adrenaline or TnT the XC a X package the Vr1 a hit between X and XRS most will say, and it’s going to get you the std. 7s GPS gauge, then the XCR is mostly inline with a XRS.
I have a Renegade X on order for this season with the standard 7.2" gauge. Have been kicking the tires on adding the glovebox extension with phone holder so I can maybe use my phone as a GPS since coming to a stop and having to whip out my phone and double check where I am going does get old.

Last season I went to Polaris coming off a XP chassis going with a Axys SP platform new off the floor. Seating and cockpit I thought Polaris did a good job.
Accessories wise Ski Doo has it all over Polaris. Linq is better than what is offered by Polaris, I actually had the bracket for using Ski Doo rear mount accessories on the Polaris.

Something simple like factory mirrors really showed lack of thought from Polaris. I ended up trading it for a Ski Doo Renegade Adrenaline once they announced the recall.

I would have liked to have tried some of the other features Polaris offer's but nothing was available. That's a lot of power sports right now.

Out on the trails is didn't have any issues with what Polaris is building and I had planned on another season or two before I trading it up. Price wise I feel like Ski Doo is a better deal right now.

I’d say look at the XC with Fox shocks or jump to a XCR with your size you’ll need more from the stock VR1 suspension. Surprisingly as it sounds from owning and riding with all available versions my experience is the XC has better ability to ride well for the bigger guys stock for stock than the VR1. And as said the factory storage bags are not as good as Linq stuff from SkiDoo but you can easily buy the plates to put them on a Polaris. I also agree in the current market conditions SkiDoo is the bang for your buck price leader on most models. I owned SkiDoo sleds for a long time but can’t comfortably ride the G4 and was disappointed to see the G5 still had the square top edged step panels that keep me off SkiDoo currently. Depends on price I’ll probably try the new Cat next season.

They are all the same basic sled. When you price them out just remember that e-start is standard only on the SP. So that's another $500 to add to the VR1 or XC if you want e-start. The SP is only available in 137" and doesn't have a track option. I had an older SP and it was missing rail braces (which could have been added later). Just something to look out for.

Since your looking at 2024 that best thing for you to do is spend some seat time on a Polaris. I ride with a number of guys that ride Ski-Doo and there is a noticable difference in riding position. We all trade sleds throughout the year.

The first thing you should look at is your comfort level with the seating position. I just don't feel as comfortable with the Ski-Doo and I've put on a number of miles on them. Not by any means saying Ski-Doo is a bad sled, it's not. I just like the riding position and handling better on a Polaris.

Get some seat time on both and then start comparing the other details.

Polaris has a large number of businesses renting out the latest sleds. Some are Polaris dealers and some are independent businesses. They rent out the top of the line sleds. I am very interested in buying a Matryx. Two winters ago I twice rented a VR 1 650 with the 7s gauge, and last winter rented an XC Adventure 650. I have a G4 SkiDoo. currently. I absolutely loved!!! the Matryx. May need to start a Go Fund Me for a new sled.

Up in the air right now. Will wait until December to decide after I see gas prices and inflation. I was very happy with Maine riding.
What about you?
as of right now five weeks in quebec planned. Maine was good but my drive to Maine is longer than most starting locations in quebec so for me that part is the same. last year I logged 6,000 miles in quebec.

I hesitate to ask, because I do not want to spread false rumors.... But I heard at one time sled theft in Quebec was a large problem. Is that an issue or still an issue?

On some trips over the years I took in Canada ( week long overnighters) certain places I stayed took your sled and stored them in doors overnight. Not heated, just secured. Occasionally would be given advice to watch or secure them in some way...never had a problem.

I agree. If I can just guess our average age on this forum ( most of us) we come from a time when we saw the difference between then and now. We know it’s going in bad direction. But what amazes me how many people of our older age group and the current generation still think everything is normal... or it’s always been like this. I disagree! There has been a lot of things lately that have taken place in all our lives that we don’t challenge we just say yes to it! That’s a concern.

I’ve made the switch as well . We have 3 Skidoos in the garage one is sold . They have been dead nuts reliable and fun machines . Last year rode a friends 850 XCR could not wipe the smile off my face and snowchecked a loaded one .That engine had a ton of power the sled just fit me really well and was very comfortable especially banging some bumps .
the 7S screen was completely like nothing I have seen before I was amazed but have not time to look into maps and other stuff .

I cannot wait to ride it I mean cannot wait ..

Just my $0.02 I ride a 2020 Polaris xc 137 with the 800 and after riding Yamaha's for 14 years, I pretty happy. I'm a 6'4" 300lbs beast and I fit comfortably on my sled but real nice on the Matryx chassis sleds, kinda too bad I didn't get one. The Axys is no slouch but I have had to spend extra to beef up the soft suspension and raise the set and bars. I sat on a VR1 Boost a couple days ago and the difference between the Axys and Matryx is night and day from an ergonomic perspective, so much more room on the Matryx, especially at the knees and hips.

I have a 650 VR1 and absolutely love it. My girlfriend has a 2023 Indy SP coming. The only real difference between them is the gauge and shock package.

Once I get her SP I will post a full ride review and impression of it. There never seems to be many reviews of the Indy SPs. For the money it's a pretty decent value and will be a massive upgrade from her 2013 SP.

Order you 2024 as soon as possible and hope you get it… never know with Polaris and their delivery or recall issues. Ordered my 22 snowcheck in March received April 6, 13 months later. My 22 850 Doo snowcheck arrived in December.

like you bought the Polaris for change, and after riding one but delivery delay and now recall a negative. Own several Doo G4’s with G5 ion way and like riding them with no issues. Looking forward to seat time in Polaris.
Regardless of what people say personal opinion, based on factors only you can determine!
