I am having my shocks rebuilt - how do you know when the springs (the front suspension and front shock spring in the rear) need replaced? What are the signs?

I understand that the way to determine if the coil over springs are gone is to measure the free length.

Does anyone know the free length of the springs for the front suspension and the front shcok in the rear skid?

The only ones that you might have to worry about are the rear-most ones. The coil springs rarely give trouble, but the torsion ones can be a pain if they lose their springyness?

Ok - I got the shocks done and the skid put back together. Does it matter if the brass pressure valve is pointing toward the tunnel or the track?

Also what is the purpose of the cover on the front shock in the rear?
