I asked this same question about 2 months ago and the answer I got was that stainless studs can't be heat treated the same way as regular steel and therefore they're more prone to losing the carbide tips. I went with 144 MegaBites on my XC. I'll report on the durability later in the season.

stainless steel is softer metel it will wear faster,but i think they are lighter,and more money.I have used both prefer gold diggers

Stainless studs wear differently too. They tend to wear down slower. This can be good for longevity...however this also means they wear fatter. The standard carbide tipped stud will wear thinner and allow better penetration. lol
