I am looking for some ideas/pictures for storing 2 sleds, one on top of another.

I have saw a few that can be purchased, any body have any ideas on what they have made to help on floor space during the off season?

Thanks

I just threw some2x4's together and used my cherry picker to set them up there.. Six sleds where there used to be three. Kevin

Here's what I did. It's actually a 20x4 foot ramp hinged to the wall back in the corner. I use a winch to pull the sleds up then use the same winch to lift up the back end. In the summer the sleds are up there with the boat underneath & during the winter the mower and the 4 wheeler are up there with the GTO underneath. Saves a ton of floor space.

here's my set up. I usually put my second sled underneath and my first sled and my son's 120 up top, but I sold my second sled... Now all my son's other crap is under the rack instead of my 2nd sled.. Definitely saves space.

This pic shows just my sled up top at the time. Now the 120 and a whole bunch of other crap is up there too..

My set up is this:
(2) 10' tall by 5' deep pallet racking uprights
(4) 10' long pallet racking beams. two in front and two in back,
(1) 10' long by 4' tall cattle gate purchased at Tractor Supply. (1) 4x8x3/4" piece of plywood. These to pieces make the lift and the plywood is bolted to the gate
- Different lengths of cables and chain and the pulleys atttaching the cables to the uprights and lift.
- Two heavy duty hand winches. One is visible at the front right. the other is at the rear left. The winch on the right raises/lowers the front of the lift. The winch at the rear left raises/lowers the rear of the lift. Ideally I have two people present when raising or lowering to go up/down equally, but I have done it by myself walking back and forth from one to the other and raising/lowering 12" at a time. I just lower the lift to the ground, then slide the sled over onto it and crank the winches and it goes straight up. The key is to find uprights that are 5' deep since most sleds are about 4' wide or more.
(6) 4x4's that are cut to length and span the two lower beams. When the lift is in the raised position, I then put the 6 4x4's across then lower the lift back down onto them. The ensures the weight of the lift is fully on the 4x4's durring storage. The cables are then loosened a bit and there as a safety measure.

I hope this helps and makes sense.

$150 for the pallet racking pieces and about $300 total into the whole thing...

The end on the back wall where it's hinged (left side of pics) is just attached into the wall joists with a bunch of reinforcing for strength. The side against the wall has "kickstands" made from 2x4s that drop into place when I lift the ramp for support and the outer edge has 2 heavy ratchet straps angling up to where the wall meets the ceiling, one in the middle and one at the end. At the back end (right side in the pics) I strengthened the rafters & joists and put in an eyelet to hook the winch to from the end of the ramp to lift & lower it. I don't have any pictures of it in its "ramp" condition, but that should give ideas of how it works. If anyone wants close up pics I can get some taken of anything in particular.

I never thought of the lumber storage racks. I have a few extras at our sawmill. Im going to have to look into that. You use a skid steer to get the sled up on top then?

i started to build one out of 2" galvanized pipe, but have put it on hold. looking to store mine out of the garage in a shed off the backside of the garage.
The pipe thing works good until i came to using unions for the 4 pipe that run horizontal to the rack for leg support. When threading the 2 pieces together they just didn't feel like they offered the strength that everything to that point did.
Many good builds keep them coming
Thanks

Subscribed.....I would love to rack mine up too. However, lifting them up and down is my issue.
