Not knowing how the rest of the state faired, as we didn’t get much snow down here. For us in southern Maine, what are folks thoughts on the most southern place to trailer to and unload for a day ride? Fryeburg? Newport? Rangely?

check out NOAA's interactive snow map. that should give you an idea to start. some people are not going to give up their southern honey holes if there are any. in recent years the Newport railbed up to Dover came on early and stuck around compared to other parts of southern and central ME. I have no idea what it looks like now.

Best bet for great trail riding within a couple hours of southern Maine is the Rumford area. Andover, Dixfield, Byron , Mexico. Great trail system , 1-1/2 hours from Portland. Not sure how it is now, I’m guessing they got some decent snow the last two days. But that’s usually a great area to ride. But don’t tell anyone.

There's a straight ride up Rte 26 to NEWRY?

A straight ride up Rte 302 to Fryeburg,Lovell/Stoneham?

A straight ride up Rte 4 to 108 into Canton/Puru?

All three of these suggestions aren't great. Surely not where they normally would be on a good snow year. "BUT RIDABLE"

If you want better trails drive another 1+ hours to the other destinations. "Rangeley or The Forks"

BEEN A TOUGH YEAR SO FAR. :dunno:

Nothing wrong with that. I’m hoping to be in the County myself Fri-Sun or Mon

I can’t imagine Newport is very good based on how thin it was prior to the last snow. The Forks was pretty bad yesterday at least on 87/86 etc even before the weekenders got to it all day, though it seemed like enough snow cover. Going north from there might not be bad. Trails were actually better down near bingham. The county has been great this year.

Rode from Dover today.....Greenville was good, as was everything towards the Forks except in town.....
Rode south of Dover a bit. The RR bed was fabulous. My bet is Newport north on the RR bed (ITS 85) would be good going. More sled time is always better than more truck time!

Surprisingly, the River Trail was quite good from Northern Outdoors to the intersection of ITS86.....ITS 86 towards Greenville was damned near perfect after you got past that nasty pole line by the lake. Bald Mountain Trail was perfect......Anything around ITS 87 south of ITS86 was horrible.....

We got on the rail bed in dexter yesterday(late afternoon) and it was still in great shape. Rail bed should be good to go from Newport park & ride north.

Let me know if you get anywhere near Millinocket. We'll be up Fri - Mon. Winterfest in Milli so we'll be out on the vintage stuff Fri evening!

Will Do Charlie. I think I’m heading to IF Thursday night so I’m thinking I may be in that area on Friday. I have your digits.

The trails in the Anson/Madison area are dragged and in good condition. The river crossing in north anson is good. Be careful on the trestle in Madison though, several sleds have gotten stuck on there lately.
