So I'm planning on looking at a sled that the owner has never registered and the PO never registered.. it might have never been registered but I'll try to find out when I get the VIN tomorrow to check if it's stolen.. What do I have to do to get a registration in my name if the owner doesn't have one? Can I work around it so I don't have to worry about getting back in touch with them to sign something or get something notorized together (they are 2 hrs away in PA). Anyone have any advice? Thanks

What year is the sled?? I forget what year it started, but Pa issues titles with snowmobiles so if they have the title for the snowmobile you may not need the registration for the sled the title should be more than enough to get the sled registered in N.Y. When I registered my snowmobile for a N.Y. registration I needed a copy of my insurance, copy of my Pa title and I think my pa registration. I'll look tomorrow and see if I can find the correct info I needed for registering a Pa snowmobile in N.Y.

Click the link below:

Snowmobile Registration, Titling, and Insurance

Copy & paste from the link above:

SNOWMOBILE TITLES
All snowmobiles in Pennsylvania must have a title issued by DCNR. The cost of a title is $22.50. The exceptions to this requirement are for:

Snowmobiles bought or acquired prior to October 23, 2001
Snowmobiles owned and used by a federal, state, or local government body
Snowmobiles owned by a dealer before and until sale
Snowmobiles owned by a nonresident
Snowmobiles owned by a Pennsylvania resident, but registered and used in another state

I would be making a phone call to the DMV and asking what all you need to register the sled in N.Y. from Pa.....

I did check the DMV website and look around.. seems like it's very possible. If I have owned it for over a year (I'll just have the owner backdate me a receipt) then I only need to present a couple forms, one of which I need to have him fill out, the transfer of ownership form. This doesn't look that bad at all but, I guess it's up to the discretion of the person at the DMV office so that is a bit worry some.. plus it's a non-transferable registration untill Albany approves it and hopefully send me a transferable registration.
