Last year my clutches seemed to be running cool and now this year they're pretty much on fire! The alignment / offset seem to be ok, the motor mounts are solid. I got thinking last night when looking it over that maybe the replacement nut (which is noticably larger than the oem it came with) I put on the belt deflection screw (had to replace the screw due to it breaking & the dealer didn't have anymore nuts to match) may be causing a problem with the balance in the secondary. Would a little bigger nut on the deflection screw make that much of a difference in balancing thus causing alignment/belt heat issue?

Seems kind of crazy to me but who knows. There is no noticable vibration so that's why I dont think that could be the issue. I just know the excess heat wasn't there last year. How about a broken or sacked primary spring? Anyone?

Are you talking about the jam nut? Then no. Really tight deflection could do it. Sticking clutches, like you said broken or weak springs.
