My last sled is a 2002 600 XCSP Edge chassis that I owned from snowcheck and had it dialed in to run with the new sleds with no problem, and loved it, but it was time to upgrade, and boy did I.
478 Miles in 3 days of riding Northern lower MI btw the 23rd - 27th of December.
The 850 is stock except for this.... I-Grips in the pre drilled lugs on the Cobra, I'm a Bergstrom guys so I shimmed the skis and put on ski savers with 6" Good and Ugly Carbides. I've used the Triples points in the past I like the singles, oh and I'm running Legend oil, not Polaris oil.
1. Let's talk POWER first - The first couple miles I remember thinking this 850 doesn't pull much harder then my ole' 600, what is the big deal with these sleds, I wasn't impressed yet? Could have been me being cautious in the beginning and getting familiar with the new sled. After about 2.5 hours (Injector break-in was done I assumed) the sled started to come alive, and I was like oh this is different and it really started to wake up. At about 11-11.5 hours (extra oil break-in was done I assumed), I was like holy S***T this thing pulls like a freight train. I developed a blister on my left thumb from hanging on for dear life, lol!, my hands, the skin felt raw-ish like I had been racking leaves without gloves. I was never exhausted after riding my 600 like I was after riding the 850 (I'm no stranger to 200 mile days on either sled, love the long days). I know that the way this thing pulls is the reason, not the handling or suspensions, it's a direct result to my thumb pressure! Pulls the skis up a 60mph, yes she does! The tired-ness/exhaustion is not sore-ness, I wasn't sore, only sore across the upper back/shoulders from sawing on the bars having a blast. Oh and I saw 104mph a couple times on the dream-o-meter, I'm not top end guy but had to run it up a bit just to see!
2. Let's talk HANDLING/Suspension- We were breaking trail on the 23rd, and pushing in the corners, I was riding with a couple DOO guys that have their sleds dialed in, and they were pushing in the corners too with the fresh loose snow, so I felt better. Once on groomed trail with snow and not ice, just point it into the corner and the sled handled beautifully, I did have to learn what driver input the sled liked best, still learning that, but man it will rail a corner with confidence. I bottomed the rear skid a couple times I'll stiffen it up only a bit I like to use what I paid for and will accept bottoming on the big hit here and there.
3. Let's talk 7s DISPLAY - Love it! The GPS is super cool, I love data, so it spoke to me! lol! One thing I learned about it. If you are in a ride track mode and want to change fuel settings, you have to pause your current ride first. I didn't see where it says this in the owners manual might have missed this I mention this to maybe help others.
4. What I don't like - It is way colder then my Edge, I immediately bought new gloves and boots, but I'm not really upset about some new gear!
That is some of my first impressions, and overall am above average pleased with the purchase, and too think somebody backed out of this snow checked sled! Thank you for reading, I'm bored and we need snow!
