So heres the whole story, maybe someone can help me figure out what the deal is. I bought my pro x a few years ago and didn't get any time to ride it up until this year. I went out for a ride a few nights ago with my buddies and blew a belt, I went to throw on my spare and it didn't fit, way to tight but it was the same exact belt that was on the sled already (polaris brand #3211080). So I ended up pulling it home, i brought the spare belt back to the dealer and exchanged for a different one thinking maybe there was a mistake from the factory, the new belt was some what bigger but its still too tight, come to find out my secondary has been replaced, its not the TEAM secondary, its like the P80 that my buddies edge 800 has, it has the 3 bolts and the brass collar to adjust the gap inside the clutch. So what do I need to do? Obviously someone made it work before because I was riding it up until the belt broke. Any advice or info would be great!

Also, my adjuster on the secondary is set at the 5th position with the sheaves opened all the way and the belt still sticks out of the top about an 1/8" or more.

If the center to center of the clutches is correct (11.5"), and the engine torque stop is set just tight to the engine, the belt should ride above the secondary with deflection set to the proper 1.25". Adjust your belt height by deflection, not how high it is above the secondary.

Yes running that secondary will be fine. Also there is probably a reason the old belt blew. Check alignment, deflection, and center to center like pockets mentioned. It could have just broken because of being warn out but my guess is there is something else going on there.

The old was fairly worn and had a few good flat spots, but im assuming that who ever put the belt on before me had this same problem and ran it until it stretched/burnt the belt down enough to no choke the motor out when it was running. it rubs on the primary just enough to make the sled creep when i start it. How do i go about checking deflection? I thought that was the 3 bolts and brass cap adjuster on the side of the secondary? And i also noticed i can push the secondary in and out on the shaft a good 1/4 inch or so, normal or no?

and any idea on why someone would replace the TEAM secondary that was suppose to be on this sled originally? Is there an advantage to the one thats on there or should I buy the secondary that was suppose to be on there in the first place? I'd like to get this squared away so theres no more headaches haha

The team is a really good snowx clutch but is not known for its top end. Some guys have had it run well a lot of others not so much. I am in the process right now of tuning a hyperlite for my 440 to see if I can improve on performance. If I was you unless you could find a really good deal on a team I would work on maximizing the performance of the clutch you have with the right set up.

I can get one for $100 bucks which doesnt seem too bad, im not looking too much into performance because the winter is sadly coming to an end and I don't plan on keeping it for next winter. I'd like to just get a few good rides in on it before the winters over, ive had it 3 years and ive put 15 miles on it :( So i just want to get it so i can ride it haha. The belt deflection is whats getting me?

a new secondary won't solve you problem if its caused by improper c-c distance. Imo, the button is easier to work on and parts are cheaper.

just wonderin', could it be that the secondary is set up for a narrower belt?

Im gunna check the center to center, it looks to be more then 11.5, and i noticed the motor is all the way forward so maybe thats it? I don't know about a narrower belt because the dealer said they don't make them narrower then the one i have. It still just confuses me as to why the belt worked before, now a new belt that is the exact same as before isn't working?

.. could be b/c the old belt were worn narrow enough to work..?

Thats what im guessing, the belt should sit down inside the secondary right? I feel like center to center is off the more i think about it, the belt sits all the way down inside the primary so when you start the sled it just rolls away haha. In theory the primary being closer to the secondary will make the belt sit up higher in the primary right? Sorry if i sound like an idiot, i'm fairly new to all of this and trying to learn :bc2:

The 1080 is the correct belt. Sounds like your belt to sheave clearance might be too tight on the primary. Should be around .020".

The 1/4" side to side play on the secondary/jackshaft is normal. That bit of play keeps the belt aligned in the clutches. :bc:
