When EFI and electronic controlled sleds were forced on us our ability to do many repairs ourselves ended, get ready to pay $100-$125 per hour to have some 18 year old kid fix your sled after a plug and play connection he's made..I'm sticking with carbs as long as possible.
thats the real problem is that dealers really dont have a good grasp on how things work so alot of the times there guesing what to do and the way i understand theres vary little help from factory.im in the electronic and mechanical field but dont have access to the tools to work on them.my dealer is real good at letting me be there when where trying to fix but hes also got alot on his plate especially this year with all the snow.the problem i have is that sled back fires often when coming to a stop after longer runs also seems to kind of load up at slow speeds it clears up right away when you open throttle up but in twist trails king of tough either going like hell or nothing.where do you start injectors leaking,tps incorrect,did reeds get damaged from backfiring?so many variables now.

I expect / hope it's only a matter of time before someone leaks this stuff out so we can get hacked versions, only problem will be with software updates. They must be a disgruntled Polaris employee somewhere with access to this stuff.

Now after you've done all this all you can do is view status, read and clear error codes, get a copy of the service manual and run reports. Installing new maps to the ECU will require connection to the Polaris dealer web site for an "authorization code". That requires the dealers ID and other info.

Part of the problem is that the DW can only tell you so much. If you don't have the MIL on, then the electronics "think" everything is ok at the present time. If there are running issues, then there is something mechanical going on. Those issues have to be checked the "old fashioned way". Fuel filter replaced? Fuel pressure correct? If there is a fuel controller, how does the TPS output look? If no controller (it really should have one - seriously), dig out the old TPS tool from the carb days and check it for any odd or unsteady readings. As an example, my '12 800 had an injector issue. It would be a bit "lazy" coming off the line, hesitate a bit at times in the low to midrange, but just once in a while. No codes, no other signs of anything wrong, TPS had been replaced and re-checked, fuel filter and pickup sock changed. Slowly, the problem began to happen more consistently and over a wider RPM range. Chatted with the mechanic at my dealer, he agreed that the symptom was probably injectors. I changed them myself and all good again. It would have been "nice" to have DW at my disposal, but didn't really need it in the end. Sometimes, you just need to understand how things should be working and eliminate those things you can check. What is left is likely to be the problem...

I have CanDoo Pro in my shop. With the Polaris I can do everything on the sleds that DW does except recalibrate speedo, and install new programming. It will read all same parameters as DW, activate all relays/ injectors/ oil pump/ fuel pump, etc. It can reset engine fuel and oil breakin settings, do exhaust valve relearn. It allows you to read fault and freeze frame codes, and gives descriptions of what codes are. It is a nice unit.
Also it is expandable to cover BRP, Mercury, Suzuki, and other companies. The complete setup for Polaris Snow/ PWC/ ATV/ UTV/ Victory was $399 including all cables, unit, etc. It's well worth it for a shop, and I would consider it for myself if I was just a dedicated enthusiast. How much is $400 compared to parts, gas, oil, permits, or dealer charges?
Also it is expandable to cover BRP, Mercury, Suzuki, and other companies.
