im just wondering how hard it is to take off the front coil springs to paint them and put them back on without a spring compressor

Not hard at all. Take the whole shock off and you can compress the spring by hand and remove the retaining clip. Very easy. I've done it lots of times.

Paint wil only crack and flake off. You must powdercoat.

it dont matter what kind of paint you use its all gonna flake off from compressing, you have to powdercoat.

the only way regular paint would work is if it has lots of latex in it, but still wont hold...

i used PPG concepts single stage with the DP primer and it held up fine last year. Only damage is from stones and brush no flaking.

Bill, Did Fireball powdercoat the spindles on that ZR as well? Did they have any problems with no being able to take them apart?

Just sand them down well and use Duplicolour paint with the ceramic in it. I have used this for many parts and it has never flaked off at all. If you want to go one step further use the high heat version with ceramic in it and bake them in your oven as per the can recommendations. Rock solid!
