At this time, not having seen anything to the contrary, I expect MY22 Matryx 850 128/129/136/137 Sea Level to be geared like the MY21 Matryx 850 were:
23:37-68p 1.61 ratio
1.25 ICE Ripper XT
1.35 Cobra

22:41-70p 1.86 ratio
1.5 Storm (non-XCR)
1.6 Cobra (XCR)

There is less than 1% difference in travel / MPH per drive axle revolution between the 8 tooth 2.86 driver and the 9 tooth 2.52 driver.

yes it works well. but i geared my 129" storm track xc 850 up. 1.81 from 1.86 and found more top end without any loss on the low end. we have 136" xcr 850 with 1.6 cobra tracks snow checked. we are going to test this with 1.73/74 ratio and see how they do? i think it will pull it.
With the 1.6, I'm wondering how a 1.79 ratio would work. It’s 1/2 way between a 1.73 and 1.86 with large gears upper(24) and lower(43) with 1/2” slack.

I am going to make a gear change this Spring to 1.79 (24/43). I'm thinking this might be a bit stronger than the 1.74 I am currently running on 1.5" Storm. However, someone with a 1.25" Ice Ripper or 1.325" Cobra might benefit better with a 1.68 or 1.73/1.74. The stock 1.61 is too tall, even on glare ice.

It's a big jump up in possible gearing combinations from a 1.79 to 1.74, there is nothing in-between. Thinking... the large gears will increase chain case efficiency to add a little more to the top end, and that large bottom gear to help the low end out? Also, the 1.79 will provide a little more track loading of the clutches over the 1.86 Not studding it, but will add the iGrips for some hard-pack/ice stability vs no traction products.

There is about 3 mph difference at 8250 rpm, with 1:1 clutch shift (no overdrive) between 1.79 ratio and 1.74 ratio. 99.8mph versus 102.8mph

Correct, and @ 8250 it is 3.9mph difference between stock and 1.79 for a total difference of 6.9mph between stock and 1.74 ... "a relatively big jump". And, I'm thinking of clutching to 8150.

I have a Matryx Assault 850 ordered with the 1.35". With the 1.74 gearing it should work decent for top end and acceleration?

How do you know what gears you are getting?
Just going by what was posted on this site and from what I’ve read , that’s what the 2021 came with, with that track. You have an assault ? Are you satisfied with it? Have you checked your gearing?

My VR1 850 137” came with the cobra track and the stock gearing from factory was 22/37. I switched my track to a Storm 1.5 and did a lot of gearing trials. With 22/38 gears, I shaved a full half second off a 660’ run. I had it down to 7.001 seconds at 660’ and 9.490 seconds at 1000’ and 100.1 mph GPS at 1000’. I use a Gtech to get my data and it’s accurate. I changed my gears to 22/41 but conditions turned to crap before I could test it.

Basically a 1.5” track and it pulled well the 137” track with a 1.73 ratio. Thanks for the useful info. NSP stated he made improvements with a 1.81 ratio vs the 1.86 in terms of top end with no loss of acceleration with a 128” storm track. What is your peak rpm?

IF your sled comes with 1.74 gearing it will be geared lower than previous years. Yes assault. Very satisfied. Matryx has stock gearing but will be going to 23/40, 1.74 Next season. My 19 has 23/40’s and it out runs the 21 easily. All have 1.6” ice cobra tracks.

Rick, 1.73 with the 1.5 Storm works really well, especially with your clutch kit with SLP ramps fully loaded. Use a 140/320 primary spring. No problem hitting 100 mph GPS in 1000’ and very good ETs

So it seems that the larger lug tracks can pull the 1.73/1,74 gear ratios and have increased performance results versus the shorter gearing found stock on the larger lug (1.5" Storm and 1.6" Cobra) sleds. Maybe I'll keep my 1.74 in my VR1 850 137" 1.5" Storm instead of gearing lower to 1.79.

So is this accurate for what the 2021 Matryx had ?
I have 850 assault Snowchecked with a 1.35” track and I’m hoping it will have decent top end 🤞🏼 How accurate is the 7s speedo as I’ve seen videos of 100mph with a 2.0” track and 180km/h with a 1.6” track ?

my21 assault with 1.5” track and stock 1.86 would easily run that gearing out to 106-107 GPS and then over rev as it was out of gear.

My 18 and 19 are both geared at 1.74, 23/40 with 1.6” ice cobra and they work really well. My 21 with stock gearing, 22/41 1.86, will not run with the 19. I don’t have gps numbers and speedo has not been recalibrated so my numbers are not a good comparison.

Thought for sure I would have to gear down after doing a track swap on the '22 137 XCR I ordered (going to 1.75 backcountry). If the current trend continues with gearing (from previous years) it'll come with 22/41 as I ordered it with a 1.6 cobra. From the sounds of it the sled won't have any issues pulling that gearing with the bigger lug..Only concern being belt temps.
Guess we'll find out 🤷‍♂️
