Stock 850 MY22 136/137's with 1.25" and 1.325" tracks will come with 1.61 (23/37) gearing (assuming). Curious if anyone has tested gearing on MY21 850's with the smaller lug tracks to determine if this is too tall and more gains are realized with shorter gearing....maybe a 1.68 (22/37) or 1.73 (22/38) gear ratio?

So can anyone confirm the XCR comes 21/37 for the 1.25” tracks or are they all geared short for the 1.6 cobra like doo does ? First thing my doo buddies do with their xrs is gear it up as they all come with short gearing no matter the track. I’m swapping the 1.35 cobra for a 1.25 rip 2 as they are the best track that we have found to date for our riding style/area/conditions.

At this time, not having seen anything to the contrary, I expect MY22 Matryx 850 128/129/136/137 Sea Level to be geared like the MY21 Matryx 850 were:
23:37-68p 1.61 ratio
1.25 ICE Ripper XT
1.35 Cobra

22:41-70p 1.86 ratio
1.5 Storm (non-XCR)
1.6 Cobra (XCR)

There is less than 1% difference in travel / MPH per drive axle revolution between the 8 tooth 2.86 driver and the 9 tooth 2.52 driver.

It's a big jump up in possible gearing combinations from a 1.79 to 1.74, there is nothing in-between. Thinking... the large gears will increase chain case efficiency to add a little more to the top end, and that large bottom gear to help the low end out? Also, the 1.79 will provide a little more track loading of the clutches over the 1.86 Not studding it, but will add the iGrips for some hard-pack/ice stability vs no traction products.

There is about 3 mph difference at 8250 rpm, with 1:1 clutch shift (no overdrive) between 1.79 ratio and 1.74 ratio. 99.8mph versus 102.8mph

My VR1 850 137” came with the cobra track and the stock gearing from factory was 22/37. I switched my track to a Storm 1.5 and did a lot of gearing trials. With 22/38 gears, I shaved a full half second off a 660’ run. I had it down to 7.001 seconds at 660’ and 9.490 seconds at 1000’ and 100.1 mph GPS at 1000’. I use a Gtech to get my data and it’s accurate. I changed my gears to 22/41 but conditions turned to crap before I could test it.

Rick, 1.73 with the 1.5 Storm works really well, especially with your clutch kit with SLP ramps fully loaded. Use a 140/320 primary spring. No problem hitting 100 mph GPS in 1000’ and very good ETs

So it seems that the larger lug tracks can pull the 1.73/1,74 gear ratios and have increased performance results versus the shorter gearing found stock on the larger lug (1.5" Storm and 1.6" Cobra) sleds. Maybe I'll keep my 1.74 in my VR1 850 137" 1.5" Storm instead of gearing lower to 1.79.

So is this accurate for what the 2021 Matryx had ?
I have 850 assault Snowchecked with a 1.35” track and I’m hoping it will have decent top end 🤞🏼 How accurate is the 7s speedo as I’ve seen videos of 100mph with a 2.0” track and 180km/h with a 1.6” track ?

my21 assault with 1.5” track and stock 1.86 would easily run that gearing out to 106-107 GPS and then over rev as it was out of gear.

Thought for sure I would have to gear down after doing a track swap on the '22 137 XCR I ordered (going to 1.75 backcountry). If the current trend continues with gearing (from previous years) it'll come with 22/41 as I ordered it with a 1.6 cobra. From the sounds of it the sled won't have any issues pulling that gearing with the bigger lug..Only concern being belt temps.
Guess we'll find out 🤷‍♂️

1.86 ratio on a 2015 pro-x with the 1.75 backcountry struggled off trail some, and belt heat was bad. i talking 2' plus snow depth. we geared it lower and made a huge difference. remember most of the clutching gearing testing is done in northern M.N. flat ditch running and not the snow we get out east. just like jetting years ago relative humidity played a big role. dry air in M.N. wet air on the east coast. why ski-doo's were more spot on then cat or Polaris. you really have to look at how and where you ride, before making changes. but we like testing and thinking outside the box. why we find stuff that works.

If it ends up having any issues pulling the 22/41 ill throw 19/40 gears in it (typical 144x2.0 assult set up).

I'll be happy with 90's for MPH, I'm more about the corner to corner and hammering rough/loose trails. Rick I had messaged you on FB about a month ago looking into gearing suggestions for the 136x1.75. I expect a few iterations before I get a solid all around set up. Perhaps we can work on getting it dialed this year

Well I just pulled the chaincase cover on my 21' 850 VR1 137" with the Cobra track and discovered that it has 22/37 gearing. The owners manual says 23/37. I was going to install 22/38 gears to get the ratio to 1.73 because I thought the stock gearing was 1.61 when in fact the stock gearing is 1.68. Also the caliper bolt on the rear portion of the caliper was a joy........Now this is an extremely late build 21' Production date 12/28/20

21 xc 650 129x1.5 w/igrips. Trying to figure out the right gearing compromise between top speed and deep snow or twisties. Sled originally came with a cobra track. I changed to a storm and switched gears and chain over to 2.0

Fantastic acceleration but needs more on top.

650 xcr with the 1.35 cobra is 1.80, the 1.6 cobra came with 1.86, and you have 2.00. This chart will give you an idea of what to try. As the chart shows and my sled can also confirm, 2.00 gearing will give you a top end in the high 80's
