Last year around this time I posted looking for help with our new club in southeast NH, the Tri-City Trailblazers. We are working in Dover, Rollinsford, Somersworth, and eventually Rochester.

Little has changed in a year mostly due to a total lack of response from anyone to help us out. We are working hard to build our main corridor from Garrison Hill in Dover up through Rollinsford and Somersworth on up to the railbed in Rochester that runs up into New Durham.

Same story as all other clubs, except instead of the same 10 people doing the work its usually 3 for us :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Of course another thing holding us back an entire year has been politics. For almost 2 years now we have fought hard with the city of Somersworth to gain permission from them to have our trail run through 2 pieces of property they have. If anyone on here knows anyone involved in Somersworth government please call and give us a plug!!!!

Anyone interested in helping us out or joining us can PM me on here or email club at [email protected].

Dont give up! :banghead: Town politics takes note of people who are relentless in their goals, and if you keep putting out the word that your goals in the system are worthwhile people will slowly jump on board. :dunno: My advice to you is to keep telling your story and describing your genuine need for help, on this website, in the newspspers, wherever the opportunity presents itself. If you are consistent with your plea for help, help will come. I have seen this work over and over again, sometimes the pace of the response is agonizingly slow but it will happen. Keep your focus!

Don't let another year go by between posts, I live in the area and this is the first I've heard about the TCT. Post a time and location when you'll be working and I'll try to make time to come help out. For now, I'll help by spreading the word and seeing who I may know that can help with the city issues.

Are you set up for taking paying members yet?

Well that didn't take too long! Keep spreading the word and people will respond, see. Isn't it great when communication channels connect? :div20:

Sprunga, we are set up to accept paying members. Unfortunately we are not recognized by NHSA so there is no registration kick back to members. We are all set with the trails bureau though and got about $3000 from grant in aid this past spring and about $7500 back in '04.

Meetings are the second Tuesday of every month in the cafeteria at Janco Inc. in Rollinsford on Goodwin Road. Meetings are from 6:30 to 8:00. Last night it was me and the trailmaster, that's it nobody else. Pretty sad

We've been trying to do trail work every Sunday morning all summer, but weren't able to every week. From now 'til the snow flies we should be out there every Sunday. Lately we've been meeting at the lower Garrison Hill parking lot (the sledding hill parking area, coincidentally the city is allowing this to be a drop and unload lot for the trail) at 7:30-8:00 am. Its right at the end of the road that goes between where Wentworth-Douglas Hospital and Dover Pediatrics is.

get the local bussinesses involved , does trail go by gas station, store , restaurant , ect.
the towns taxpayers have a lot more pull then you do , you have to sell the trail to them and let them sell the idea to local gvnt.

Thanks, guys. Some local businesses have been excited about the trail and despite their support the city still wants to drag their heels on giving us what we need. Fortunately its an election year, so we just support who's there to help us out. Things tend to get done in an election year don't they?!

rt1000machz, trails are not near those towns. We are located on the ME border just north of the seacoast area and south and east of the lakes region.

We are still plugging away. :drunk: I've had a lot on my plate and have been a little removed from the club most of the summer, but am still acting president. The trailmaster has still been very busy with the trails.

Little has changed with Somersworth :banghead: ....they still are dragging their heels. Latest request from them was for a copy of every private landowners permission in city. They have no right to this info, it should not be a concern of theirs who has given us permission so far. Their argument is that they want to make sure if they grant permission they are in line with the private land owners.

I have a good friend that is an editor with Foster's Daily Democrat over in Dover. Thinking of getting an article written praising Dover and Rollinsford's support and Somersworth's lack of.

Glad you brought this post back. I was actually getting ready to put a post out regarding getting trails going in Rochester area. I have since moved to Rochester and was hoping to get things rolling in the area. Was hoping to recruit some help from Rochester area sledders to start researching landowners and getting permissions to build south from where Powder Mill's trail ends in the vicinty of Spaulding high school and head towards Somersworth. Figure I might as well sandwich Somersworth in between...hopefully they'll feel the pressure if surrounding communities are supporting us. :frech32:

By the sounds of it there is a lot going on involving paper work and such at the moment. But if you get out in the woods to do trail work give me a shout, I might be able to get out there for a few hours on a couple weekends...as you know the transit reaches out to various places in the area, so I could hop the bus to get close to the work if possible. Let me know and good luck!

Thanks man I'm glad your willing to help.

Right now it would be a bit of research to figure out where to run trail and get permissions. I've ridden up from Rollinsford to maintained trails in Rochester for years. There are many trails in place to achieve this, just need to get the proper permissions in place is all. My thought would be for us to start where the Corridor 22 (???) railbed deadends near the high school and work south from there. Think a good start would be to get trail over to the Sports Fanatic resturant/pub....I'm sure for a little business they would help us any way they could.
