Last year we stayed in the Ely area and found that we were "Pinned" to the eastern trails of that area. I think that staying in the Tower area this year would open us up to going north from Tower or going to the Ely area.

Does anyone have some ideas of reasonable lodging in the Tower area?

Thanks!

You would have to rry some resorts there or the only motel in town the Marjo at 1-218-753-4851 or Fortune Bay Resort and Casino there no. is 1-800-555-1714 Only 2 places that I know for sure are open in the winter time or maybe Bayview Lodge there no. is 218-753-4825

We stayed at Giants Ridge in Biwabik and the trail system out of there was great. Easy access! The lodging was good but the kids running up and down the hall at 3 AM sucked. Also discoverd the north shore and stayed at Grand Superior Lodge just north of Two Harbors and that was probably the best place we have stayed yet. Great restaurant just a half mile down the road and they were putting gas in as well this past summer.

Could also stay at the Super 8 in Eveleth and ride from there, our club grooms the trail to Virginia and from there you can go anywhere you want, North, east, west, wherever. ONly about an hours ride from Eveleth to Tower, and about a half hour ride to Giants ridge

Trailhawk has a great point. From Eveleth you can go in many different directions. It all depends on how far you want to ride in a day as well though. We run through Eveleth all the time and make the trip up to Kabetogoma and have gone through Tower, etc... A word to the wise though...those hotels along the strip of 53 fill up relatively fast on the weekends if you're looking on short notice.

If you don't mind a small hotel we stay at the Red Carpet in Babbit

Lots of trails to choose from there and you ride right out the door, very cheap pricing and you have sattelite for night time. This is a no frills place but you're supposed to be out riding anyway right? We look for cheap beds and good trails. This is your place.

Bonus, the owner gives you honest trail reports before you come. Plus it's a 1/2 hr from the casino, perfect little ride before breakfast.

I like Tower or Crane Lake as places to stay the best. We've stayed at Ely and Kabatogoma before too and the were not bad. The Casino in Tower is a great place to stay, as are some of the resorts around there.

If you want to drive a little farther head up to MelGeorges, it's on the south side of the Voyagers Nat Forest, Ted is a super nice guy and the trails there can't be beat.

Just north of Orr: http://www.melgeorges.com/

I also like to stay at Crane Lake, there's a nice little place there next to a bar that's cheap and you can start your ride on the lake or the trails both are right there.

a beautiful play to stay at is also the Grand Ely Lodge. Beautiful place, and just jump on the lake for a few miles and hook onto the trail system.

Last year when we stayed in Ely, we cruised past the Grandview Lodge, out on the lakes, up to the Chain Saw Sisters, and over to Lake Vermillion. That Route was alot of fun, as we Canoe the BWCA yearly and on part of the route, we rode from lake to lake over portages. Fun not having a pack on your back. :luxhello:

Update- Booked into the Glenmore Resort in Tower in January! Thanks for the Posts Gentleman. :div20:

FYI----

Days Inn in Eveleth will be missed

It is indeed unfortunate to learn that the unspoken rumors of the closing of one of the Quad Cities’ largest hospitality landmarks — the Days Inn in Eveleth — has now become a reality. The anticipated closure of this facility will unquestionably have immense economic impact on the business and tourism industry of northeastern Minnesota’s Iron Trail region.

Not sure what is going to happen to the place but it will be missed, It is open yet till March for those wanting to stay when up riding this year, The super 8 across the road is just as nice tho just not as big
