Just wondering- If someone gets stopped while in the Old Forge or Inlet trail system without a trail permit what do the cops do right there at the check point?. I know they dont sell passes there, do they escort you out of the system or what?. This question also applies to other areas such as Vermont, Ontario or Quebec or any other place where a permit is required

Ontario , get caught riding with no permit its a min. $200.00 fine to a max. of $1000.00 plus you have to buy the trail permit at $230.00.

Quebec is similar.

You get a fine in Old Forge but I'm not sure what it is. Note - you can buy a weekly pass in Old Forge, Quebec and Ontario. Old Forge even offers a full season weekday pass that's good for Monday through Thursdays. The weekly passes are cheaper.

Just Dont pay the ticket, and when 2 inlet officers show up to the house to escort you back to the Judge. They did that to a friend of mine a few yrs ago.

I hear in OF it's a $160.00 fine with the trail pass ($80.00) handed to you at that time. Just pay the money upfront. If you ride there, pay there!!

The fines in OF/Inlet should be higher IMO especially once the first few weeks of the season are over. If someone's heading INTO town escort them to the visitors center or sell them one on the trail but once again that's only early season like untill the Friday after New Years......after that fuck em' they deserve a $300.00 ticket and be forced to buy a pass on the spot or get the shit towed.

I've been up there 3 years and I've seen 1 check point EVER (Feb. Holiday Saturday at top of trail 1) and I ride all the time in OF so what gives? I have noticed more presence this year already though........

I wish they upheld the pass system better but it appears that you can run the system without much risk of getting caught and you know all the kids or broke asses will do just that. Just don't be stupid enough to ride the streets where the cop truck can check you out like they've done to me a few times or worse yet park at Slicker's without one....lol

Yeah, I wish they would check more often also, kind of makes me feel like the welfare snowmobilers are mocking us when they get away without paying their share!Town of Webb cops used to stand right at the begining of trail 1 alot on weekends. But that was years ago when trail 5 used to start down there. Now with the head of trail 5 up by the H2O Safari parking lot I guess they figure they would miss so many it's not worth it.What's really interesting is when people on snowmobile sites ask how they can ride through without a permit. So they want people who pay their share to give them advice on how they can avoid paying theirs.P.S. You can ride the roads legally without a permit.

In Vermont, once you get your ticket for $182.00 for not having a trail pass, they tell you to drive directly back to your starting point and get the sled off the trails. They also remind you that they do not want to see you back on the trails again without your pass or they will give you another $182.00 ticket and ground the sled.

I'm sure that's a judgement thing and not the writen law/code/statute and will vary on who you run into.........

In OF they tow your sled away to the channel in Inlet, and sink it out front of the beach, make you pay a fine and quit your job in the city or wherever you are from, and work a seasonal job in Old Forge cleaning dishes.

Its true, thats what happens.
