Tomcat you would have fun at either event, it’s a blast, the only guys I’ve ever seen not have fun are the ones who raced and didn’t do very well.

i couldnt care less if i win. it's just a trail sled so if a dedicated race sled mops me up, no big deal:dunno:
i'd be happy to run pump gas classes as well.

are there some posted rules for classes? i have no idea where my sled fits in.

Yup, there is always something faster...

Rules change every year so we will have to see next winter what they are.

Not that I've seen, there used to be an unwritten agreement of no conflicting races with the I-500, so all the top riders that wanted to race could, but that went away years ago. There are a couple young guys coming up that have talent and family history, Andy Pake is one, it will be interesting if they run ISOC or USXC.

I talked with Brad at the beginning of the year , They were doing/did the full national tour and Andy did pretty awesome for his first full national tour (winning sport class points championship).



The cool part of it is Brad being a hall of famer himself , has zero push to steer Andy one way or another. He is 110% supportive and lets him do his thing. Pretty awesome if you ask me..




Now back to the shit show.

My local Polaris dealer (Fun Unlimited) told us Polaris are, or possibly are, 'looking into a turbo option'. He didn't say much more then that, not sure if its an all new setup or what's going on. Just a rumor at this point.

From what I understand, its really about high elevation mountain riding. As we all know, the Crossover market is on fire lately, and more folks are trying Mountain and/or light mountain riding or 50/50 riding. Heck I'd love to hop on a 153 and shake my weight around on a few cliffs, but I'd have to really travel for that.
The main issue though, from what I am gathering is, the HP loss from an N/A motor above 2000 feet is noticeable, beyond 4000 feet is quite substantial, 8000 feet and your losing serious power....like 20-30%. Current 4 stroke turbos don't lose HP but still have too much heft.
Think were at around 1600 feet in the Mountains where we drop off near Tupper Lake, Ny (near Cranberry Lake/Colton), but that's for groomed trail riding.

@BattleStorm Many current sled engines run many forged components, including your 840. If they have the PTO issue repaired for 2020, which it looks like they do with the new lock ring, maybe they will feel confident about a small snail tucked under there. As always though, the issue comes down to cooling/heat dissipation. Both the 900 Ace and 998 get hot fast from what I am reading, the 900 Ace runs quick but its near its max from the factory. I'm looking into a 998 and want to see if anyone makes custom side panels like my bro's CFR 1000, which is basically a large screen, so it can breathe better.

The turbo guys never complain about the trails at either place.
You have to remember though, Tommy is use to running shit like the border trail up in Northern Maine where from what I understand, you can literally zip tie the throttle wide open and take a nap. Throw him some tight, twisty and bumpy shit and he will probably start crying like a school girl. You know midgets don’t do well holding onto all that sled when the going gets rough. :whistle:

you can definitely zip tie the throttle down on little girls sleds like you ride, i cant do that on mine:bigfinger:

Why, does it make you pee your pants if you do? :lol:

Not really a trail rider bud and I’ll be damned if I take someone riding a tank like yours through the woods where we ride. When I do trail ride the old sled though, it’s plenty fast enough to get the job done in most of this state. :bc:

There were rumors in early 2015 that Boondocker & Polaris were unveiling something .... my guess is that's the turbo option you'll see, if one happens. On a 2-stroke ... not a new 4-stroke.

It’s probably going to be a 2 stroke.
