I’ve been wearing an MX style 509 helmet for 10+ years. Its time for a new lid.
We ride off trail as much as possibly but being from Indiana it’s 6.5 hours to a decent trail system so for short trips we find ourselves riding trails a good bit also.
So needs to be warm.
I was leaning towards the 509 altitude 2.0 with the cold weather insert.
Looking at Fly helmets also but they don’t seem to have as much coverage for those real cold rides. Fly looks like it’s better quality but warmth is needed for when we are forced to ride trails.

When we get to the UP and are only riding off trail I never find myself getting cool in the helmet department. I wear a klim arctic baclava on trail days and only thing that gets chilly is my upper lip and nose.

509 Tactical 2.0. Just got one for my son. Looks like all you will need is a neck gaitor instead of a balaclava. More facial coverage then the altitude. Very light. And fidlock system so easy strap. Difference between regular and carbon fibre was only 150 grams lighter with a extra $250 CAD, so just went with regular. Will have to get me one also when my upgrade is time. Plus the facial cover is removable for when you get to the off trail.
