Hey guys I'm looking to gear my 97 xc 600 triple. Not looking for top end I'm looking to ditch bang and play in drifts. My gear case is stock no changes yet. Can any one tell me what top and bottom gears I should go with.

According to my 97 Polaris Shop manual, you have 21/39 gears and a 13W x 66 pitch chain. That's a 1.86 ratio.
This gives 91.1 mph @ 8000 rpm, and 96.8 mph @ 8500 all at 1:1 shift ratio and no overdrive.

A good combo using the same chain and bottom gear is 18/39 (2.17). This gives 78.1 mph @ 8000 rpm and 82.9 mph @ 8500 rpm. 19/39 (2.05) also can be used with same chain and bottom gear for a bit less gear reduction.
Another combo would be 17/39 (2.29) using same bottom gear and chain. Many other ratios are available, but most need a different chain and gears. Pick your poison.
