I've brought this up before, if you ride that hard it won't get any better mileage than the F series, I've talked to two dealers & they agree & say that they've voiced that concern to cat. I have an 06 XFire & the wife has a Sabercat, sometimes I'm on fumes when we fuel up because of my smaller tank. Yes, if you putt It's fine, making the tanks smaller I won't buy one. I can't imagine trying to deal with the XFire 1000.
 
I just got back from riding this weekend. the jags' ride and handling is amazing!! its hard to campare to anythign because its like nothing else. on the softest setting i only bottomed it out once (230lbs) and we had a 280lbs guys riding it as well. across 1st connecticut lake i got 104mph on gps and i only pulled 110mph on my F7. it doesnt feel fast but its really not too slow. It ran away from my mothers T660 turbo after 70mph.

When we fuled up the jag it got 13.7 mpg and that was with a 280lbs rider doing most of the riding in sticky snow. Also, the sled still has less than 300mi. on it...
 
The local dealer got 14 the first tank on the new Jaguar and the last tank with 700 miles on it got 18.5.
 
If Cat wanted to add a larger tank it would not be hard, but then again, since when, has Cat ever really cared what their customers wanted!!!! It's just a case of buy what we build, take it or leave it, and with that type of business plan more and more are not buying. Yes they do offer some good options but they have not yet figured out how to offer that complete sled, if they had the Z1 would have at least a 12 gallon gas tank and they would be selling them faster than they could build them. If that were the case, Cat's stock would be going up instead of falling like a rock........just like their sled sales.
 
Supposedly they had to use a smaller tank so they could fit the engine in there. I think it would have been cheaper for them to use one tank for every model so I dont believe cat used a smaller tank just to screw us over. Hopefully they find a way to put a larger tank on the jag guess we ll have to wait and see.
 
They could extend the tank under the seat by removing the adjustable seat for those that want the range, or offer the smaller tank with the ajustable seat to those that do not care how far they go before stopping for gas. Cost should not be a factor if they were to do it that way.
 
God! Your going to get an averige of over 150 miles to a fill up so why in the world to you need a bigger tank. I will never understand some of the crying that goes on. If you dont like it dont buy it. I wont cause I will never suffer the agony of not having that wonderful two stroke smell and feel.
 
I wonder why the two stroke rider's don't keep their comments limited to two stroke sleds. If you have never gone all day on just one gas stop or done a 230 plus mile leg between gas stations, you will never know what it's like. Most two stroke sleds have to stop several times a day just to see if they are low on oil anyway!!!!

yamaha did the same thing with their 4 strokes. my attak only has a 10 gallon tank. i get 14 - 16 mpg. people assume that means 160 miles between fuel stops, but a 10 gallon tank probably only has 8 or 9 gallons of useable gas. so real range can be as short as 112 miles. i dont see the new jag getting different mileage either. a 5 valve 1000cc 4 cylinder should get better mileage than a 4 valve 1100cc twin, but until it hits the snow nobody knows for sure.

I can go well over 120 miles between filling up and in a big (350 mile) day. Will top my oil off at the end and not worry about it till the next 350 or so. Never went between stops more than 80 miles apart so hard to comprehend why you would even want that extra weight on your sled. Getting stuck full of gas sucks really bad. I get about 14 trail running my sled and am very happy about that. Thinking I can get 150 miles a quart doing that is kind of nice as well. Never ever check my oil. Light does it for me and I always add at the end of the day. Hell! I never open the hood unless some yamaha or doo is with us just to show that we do have tools to take care of there mechanical troubles!

the option of more gas would be nice. nobody said you had to fill it to the top if you were worried about it. personally, i cant tell whether a tank is full or empty when digging a sled out and i really doubt you could either. :frech32:

zl5600, 120 miles between gas stops is no where near the 230 miles on a tank you can get out of some four strokes and another way to put it would be; you have to carry at least 12gals extra gas somewhere on that sled if you want to run the long trail legs that you can find up in Canada. If you have never carried extra fuel, you should try it, it can cause real problems and if you are worried about extra weight, you have it now.

For the weekend runners that just want go fast to the next gas satation, nine or ten gallon tank is more than enough, however there are a lot of riders out there that do not ride that way and are looking for the longer legs, we would like a larger tank. So if you want to keep your two stroke and stop at every gas station, be my guest. But for those that have found the value of a four stroke, don't tell us what we need. I will also continue to stop and share some of my extra gas when I come across the two stroke's that have ran out-of-gas.
 
I don't mean to bud into the cat forum, but.. I own a 05 vector, I was wondering the same thing back when I bought it.. It only has a 10 gallon tank.. The V-max I was riding had a 12.. The first few tanks was of course during the up & down throttle moves for break-in.. The gas mileage was about 17.5... After the break-in I'm getting a strong 18.5 - all the way up to a best of 21.9. The new jag should get very close to the vector.. If it does I would think a 10 gallon tank is plenty.. My first real long ride with the vector proved very interesting.. We started out with a 500 phazer, 600 V-max, ZL 580 or 550??? Sorry not sure.. Any way.. We rode 60 miles out and the guys wanted to fill up before heading back.. Not many stations along the way.. Well I didn't. We rode back.. Filled up and I had 4 gallons left.. We all were stunned.. So anyone that buys a jag and breaks it in properly they should be able to run 180 miles without freaking out... P.S. I think it's a nice sled.. :div20: :beerchug: MM.

There's no way the jag will get 180 miles out of the 9.4 gal. tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
A 9 gallon tank at best will get you about 7 useable gallons if youre lucky. if it gets 18 miles per gallon thats only a range of about 126 gallons. Granted That will be enough for almost everywhere i ride but the best thing about my 660 is that I can skip 3 or 4 gas stations before i need a fill up. That isnt possible with most other sleds. I dont need to pass the gas stations its great that i can. I ll take the weight over the stops since the weight doesnt bother me nearly as bad as worrying about running out of gas.

Edit I had a 02 zl 600 I dont know what the exact mileage was but Im pretty sure it was no where close to 14 mpg. I remember it being closer to 10 mpg but I could be wrong. If you re getting that good I recommend keeping it.
