I have most of the front suspension out of my 98 600 XC. It has Fox shocks on the front. Is there any way to determine if the shocks are ok, or if they need to be rebuilt? If I compress the shocks, they take about 4-5 seconds to fully extend.

Other than visually inspecting the shocks for obvious defects such as leaking oil...chiped chrome on the shafts or inablity to use all the shocks travel definetly requiring repair or rebuilding.....they should be rebuilt or recharged every season depending on usage. I could remember mine getting contaminated with water causing all sorts of problems after 1k miles.

You can not tell if they are good only if they are clearly bad. Annual rebui;ld is suggested on fox shocks. If it is a low use sled no more than ever 2 years.
