Well, you can remove the screws holding the helix in and put it together from the backside. Another cool trick I recently heard, but haven't tried, is using a piece of allthread and a big washer. Screw the althread into the DD input shaft with the clutch on there, put the spring in, put the plastic piece in, put the big washer on and the nut, and tighten it up until it compresses enough to start. Might need to drill a hole in your DD spring adjustment tool...

I use treaded rod on both clutches all the time....about a foot of it goes a long ways! Some times I use a big socket to push the cover and not the steel rod that the clutches move on if you know what I mean...

I remember donoBBD saying to put the spring in a vice and put a couple of tie-wraps on it to hold it compressed, put it in and cut off the tie-wraps. I havent tried it yet but it sounds like it will work.
