You will need to gear way down, to run in the grass. You could try tightening the secondary, or putting a stiffer spring in it, or a shallower helix(stock?), but best fix is to gear down.
I see you have an 04 - you might try throwing a 020 belt on it, too.

Yes, definately put the 020 belt on it. I ran a 031 all winter and then i just decided to take a ride around my field with an 020 belt and it was better. It just didnt turn :dunno: hahaha j/k

How many miles are on your belt? It sounds like you belt is burnt and glazed over. Take the belt off and scrub it hard with a wire brush with some soap and water on it. Take some sand paper to the primary and secondary sheaves, like 150 grit and give that a try. It's possible you might need a new belt.

Taking weight out of the primary would only aggravate the situation because you would have to loosen the secondary spring to control the RPM's, which in turn would run the belt looser.

Shim your secondary so that the belt just sticks out of the secondary about 1/8". Shims won't effect anything else on how it runs.

I run the 031 belt, I had some slipping and burning at take-off so I installed an ODS clutch kit and the problem was gone. Still run the 031, it's a good belt.

Also, I didn't explain that when a belt slips, that will cause the belt to be sucked down into the secondary, just like what you have going on. A glazed over belt will cause that.

actually loss of side pressure, or torsional load loss would be a better possibility, compare your spring (out of clutch) to a new one looking for tip alignment(location of ends of spring on old vs new) and length with no load, this may tell the story also, i've seen both conditions before, never both on same spring though at same time :cn:

Even if there is nothing wrong, that setup will "suck the belt" in the grass. I run 19-45 gear for f6 in the grass. If you can't gear down that much, you will have to put less start angle in the helix (try the stock one). You will never get it exactly right with the 031 belt.
