Does anyone know who or where I can get my clutch re-balanced?
I know they're done from the factory, but I had to remove some material so I could get some clearance for the new clutch weights on the clutch kit I'm using. I also got a stiffer clutch cover with more bearing contact area on it so I'd like everything nice and straight and true.
Thanks

Garlands need you to have your clutch split apart and you have to remove your spyder, and send it to them in pieces. Then you have to re-assemble it once you get it back from them. I wish someone could balance it as a complete unit. Would sure save a lot of extra expense.
some places will. it's not how we do it or would ever even specifically offer, but if someone really wanted it, i would do it. i'm sure most places would as well if you asked.
but as mentioned by others, it's definitely the wrong way to go about it.

I'd be surprised if garland couldn't do the clutch assembled. They normally don't because it's better to balance pieces individually. Then as you shim belts etc there is no issues with how the clutch is assembled causing it to become unbalanced. Moving parts may be issue I guess if weights and spring are on while spinning to balance. Anyway they have done two of mine and great to deal with. I'd love to go to the shop and see the place since they balance some serious large shit.

I,ve talked to Garlands a couple of times, to try and convince them to balance the clutch completely assembled. They will NOT do that. I don,t understand why they cann,t, but wished they could. If they ever change their mind and balance a completely assembled primary clutch, I would love to know about it, as I,m only a 3 hour drive away, and would gladly take a couple of clutches to them to have balanced.

Only way to properly and efficiently balance a clutch is to balance each assembly separately. As stated, afterward when shimming/machining or changing springs/weights or other components no further balancing is required. It also gets a much more accurate balance. Balancing as a whole unit is how the factory does it, which in all honesty is half assing it

There are a few places in my area that would balance it if I gave it to them in pieces, but I was trying to avoid it as I don't have the tools to do it, and it's an added expense. They have very good reps as they balance drivelines/shafts disassembled, and cranks for drag cars. I'm guessing they don't like moving parts on it while it's spinning.
I do realize some of the benefits of doing each piece individually, but then I'd have to make sure every bolt, nut, weigth, was exactly the same weight. If everything was match marked when initially balanced, then it'd go back into the same place aft being disassembled.
For the shops that only do it disassembled, do they take them apart or only pieces that you send them?
I've actually got 3 primary clutches I was looking to get done, 2 Yamaha Apex's and the one off my 2015 Cat XF 8000
Has anyone had any dealings with Ontario Crank Service in Orillia? I did a quick Internet search and their name came up.

Unfortunately, I'm done sledding for the year so I've got some time to get this done.

Patriotic, I got your message. Thanks

In all fairness re shimming for proper belt clearance should be worth the money to have the clutches spun apart. Even better, have the sheaves trued while apart. The Yami clutches spin apart OK, the Cat can be a bit of a pain. My 14 ZR has OK but previous couple were retarded. Green Loctite sucks.
