This was posted on Nbriders by his best friend Kent ...

some of you know him from here, some of you have met him. he took a spill today at the bottom of kelly;s mountain while on the"ride" today. he and the bike went into the guardrail.
it is early to know just the extent of his injuries, but i have been told they are not life threatening, however - they are life altering. i wont say how bad, because i just dont know for sure. but he has been life flighted to halifax, and is in bad shape. dave is one of my best friends in the world, i have known him all my life. please keep him in your thoughts today. thanks, kent.

well it isnt good, i am pretty much speechless here. dave broke booth his legs when he hit the rail. his left leg was able to be repaired, however his right leg wasnt. the doctors had to amputate his right leg just below the knee. he is still asleep from the surgery, and doesnt know. the dosctors are hoping that the surgery will be a success in that his body adapts to it, otherwise they may have to amputate the leg above the knee. daves head is ok despite the fact that his helmet flew off (dont, PLEASE dont ever use one of those clips on the strap). he is going to need lots of support when he comes to. if you know dave, you know that this will certainly not be any easy hill for him to climb. dave man, i love ya like a brother, and it kills me that i am not there for you right now. please know that there are alot of people who believe in you! i cant say anything else, i am too upset...

srious injuries. He'll be alright. He's tuff

I was in the Baddeck RCMP detachment that morning and it was over the air about the bike run around 7am. One of the officers clocked a bike @ 170km/hr up the mountain. Good to hear he was concious and talking. To bad that it happened for something going towards a good cause on the same day. Lets hope for a quick recovery.

Ok guys, for anyone that has ridden bikes or sleds with Dave. We have a poster up at Gord's for anyone that can go up and sign it to wish him well. I know of a few local riders that are on here so if you want to let him know you are thinking of him to wish him well, the poster will be up there until Friday when we head back down. We are also in the planning of a Benefit dance sometime in December to help Rhonda and his family get through this. He is going to be in Halifax for a couple of months easy. We were there yesterday to see him to let him know that he has alot of friends who have him in there thoughts. We are praying for him and we can all be strong for him and his family right now. He is a strong little
f--ker, he will ride again.
