it's not to wise, most guys that try it overrev the motor and damage the crank. i run mine without the clutch to polish the crank stub before clutch install. just make sure you don't spin it over 4000 rpm. if you have the clutch on and no belt, don't spin it high enough to enguage the clutch. if the sheaves smack together, it can lead to catastrophic failure. an exploding clutch will shread your sled and anything else in the path of the flying projectiles.
