^^^^^What he said......The 600 sdi and the 120 genesis 4 stroke from Yamaha were the best 2 sleds for MPG in those years...[/b]

The skidoo got just about as good milage as the Yamaha...but you still have to put 50 dollar a gallon oil in it.

I just rode 900 miles last week on my 06 Rage. When the cats and doos put in $14.00 I put in $8.00, and no oil.
And Nobody left me behind.

The three hole Yamahas are gas sippers. And NO oil to add. 120 hp. BUT they WOULD be left behind in our group.

$50.00 oil? I get a gallon of oil for less than 25 bucks Can run about 150 a quart and my sled holds 3.5 quarts so a good 400 miles before I need to add oil. I am getting 14 mpg trail riding in the 50-65 mph range as well. I know of a few yami's in the area that use more oil on less miles on there supposedly non oil using four strokes.

Yamaha Vector.

Best MPG, no Oil and bullet proof.

There is a 600 Doo Rev in that era that is close in the Gas Department.
Don't get the one that needs Rings and Pistons as a steady diet. The Doo guys here will tell you which one is the good one.

Its close to 50 bucks In Canada. The yammies that use oil have something wrong with them...tell the guys to check for leaks

The Yammies that use oil are likely some 2003 RX1's not the 3 holer I recommended.
Some 03 RX1's had rings that would stick. [And the odd 04 though my 04 Warrior used no oil] Yammie changed the rings in 2005.
Vector's, 05 RX1 and Apex's do not use any to speak of.
The 3 sleds in my profile use Zero oil .

The three hole vector............... I averaged 18.7 miles for 1,800 miles of riding last year.. A low of 17 and a high of 21.9.......... So far this year about 18.2.. The sled has 6,000 miles on it... It uses "0" oil for the entire season... Just love it. MMV.

The Yammis in mine did't either. Wifes Rage, doesn't use any. ALL are a pain in the rear to change oil and filter thou.

Yamaha 4 stroke Vector. 3 quarts of oil once a year($30) and around 18 mpg. Def the cheapest sled to run in those years.

Whats so hard about changing the oil??? You take off the plate under it.(4 bolts) Then unscrew the filter and the drain plug. Both right next to each other. Let drain. Replace filter and plug. Fill with oil. Maybe driving your ass to the store to buy a gallon of oil each time you need some is so much easier??? To each their own. Its more of a pain in the ass to me to have to fill a sled with oil everytime i go.

We have skid plates / belly pans. Thats what makes it a pain. And I dont drive to the store for oil either. Try reading before driving your ass to the responce icon.

Learn how to comprehend what someone types before driving your ass to the response button then..... I wasnt referring specifically to you now was I? It was in response to you saying it was a pain to change, but overall not aimed specifically at you. And for future reference, misleading people by saying things like that when you are a "special" case is pretty shady. The guy was asking for advice, not for you to lie to him.

Well opinions are like assholes....

Fortunately, most yam or 4 stroke owners have no problem changing their oil and don't find it to be a pain. I personally find it easier than changing the oil in my truck. I guess he should just know you are not the norm when saying its a pain. Whats more a of a pain to me is filling up with oil everytime i go for a ride than just spending 10 minutes to change it once a year. I dont know why....but turning the key and going is a lot more fun. But like i said... to each their own.

Don't forget the other 2 quarts in the reservoir tank. You gotta take a side panel off for that. But with that, you get to check other stuff out for preseason inspection as well.

I had a skid pan, but the dealer did such a hotshot job of installing it that I don't anymore.

PS, I have a hoist beam and chainfall in my heated shop so nothing is really a PITA :smiley-faces7:
