I just picked up this sled today and I need some advise from people with more experience than me. It has 6700 miles and I am on the edge of throwing new pistons in now instead of after a meltdown. Three hundred bucks now sounds better than a bore job in February. I did a compression test before I said yes and everything came out around 115-120 psi. Anyone can tell the sled has not been abused, but I probably am going to abuse it this winter. The machine is bone stock, and probably will stay that way. If the sled was to be modded would you advise differently?

Put the new pistons in it now...skirts are known to break with that kind of mileage. Then check (replace) the motor mounts and add a front torque stop. If mounts are original, they will be broken.

Also do a rebuild on the water pump, the pump on my 00 xcr went out at 3000miles.
